Mythos taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Apokoronas

Visited whilst at lake kurnos, we had grilled chicken, my wife had chicken ala cre and my son had cheese toasties amd a smoothie. All of the food was great and service was excellent.

Now let me tell you another reason you should visit this restaurant. I noticed when I got back to our hotel (about an hours drive) that my £500 camera and all of the footage and pictures were not in the car, the last place I remembered having it was on a pedalo, I raced back to lake kournas and asked the guys who run the pedalos if they had found it or if anyone had handed it in, I was gutted when they said no.

On the off chance I popped into the restaurant and as the man (assume owner) saw me he got up, reached behind the bar and handed me my camera.

Hugging ensued as I thought it was gone, you know how the world is...

These are genuinely good honest people, they could have kept it but they acted like decent human beings.

For this reason (along with the great food) they get 5 stars.

Please if you are at lake kurnos go and enjoy great food supplied by the type of people who make crete a great place too be.

The family-run restaurant is located by the lake, which makes it a nice location to eat. We arrived early (~10am) to spend time at the lake, so we luckily had parking spots in the shade. By the time we left around 4pm it was absolutely packed.

We had our lunch here and were honestly disappointed - we expected more based on all the positive reviews we read.

We ordered French fries, stuffed vegetables and a fennel pie. Fries were very salty, the fennel pie was okay but didn't have much taste to it. Vegetables were stuffed with tasty rice, but the vegetables themselves had a weird chemical-like taste to them.

The Flavored Ice Coffee is something we would recommend though, that was very welcome after a hot day at the lake! Received a complementary small ice cream which was appreciated.

Overall it wasn't a bad experience but we would advise you to go eat at one of the other places located...

The food was delicious. From terrace you can see turtles, which is very interesting and nice. But service in tavern is awful. First of all, they forgot our starters. We waited for 35 min and got main dishes without any appetizers. After saying about this - appetizers came in less then 10 min. One of the dish was without any vegetables on plate, two another dishes were with vegetables. I mean.. don't you see what you put on plate?! After lunch we got watermelon, which was very tasty, juice and sweet. And that's it. All other people got also grapes and raki. And there was no "goodbye" from staff when we were leaving, although we did say goodbye. In conclusion, food was very tasty and portions very big, but if you don't want to spoil your mood, I wouldn't suggest this place. There are another taverns with much better service...
