During our holiday in Crete, my husband, our two kids, and my parents stumbled upon a hidden gem that turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! This charming family-run restaurant offers an authentic Cretan dining experience that’s nothing short of magical.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a family meal. But the real star of the show was the food. Every dish was crafted with love and the freshest ingredients, a testament to the golden hands of “Mama,” the incredible chef behind the scenes.

The dolmas, or wine leaves, were the best we’ve ever tasted—perfectly seasoned and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The chicken souvlaki was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, while the lamb was truly to die for, cooked to perfection with a delightful mix of herbs and spices. The beef in tomato sauce was another standout, rich and hearty, just like a warm hug on a plate.

What made our dining experience even more special was the shared dining approach. We ordered several dishes to share among us, and it felt like a feast, with every plate offering a new and delightful surprise. It was a beautiful way to experience the variety and depth of Cretan cuisine.

“Mama” and her son have created something extraordinary here—a place where every meal feels like you’re being welcomed into their home. This is truly the best restaurant in the area.

Food - I cannot compliment the family run duo enough. The moussaka was out of the world, the lamb is an absolute treat, if they have the sea bass, do go for it. The zucchini fries were the thinnest and tastiest ever. Even their pasta was godly. You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. And all within budget. We kept coming back for dinner here.

Service - it was so so personal. The server and his mom truly make it so so personal and intimate. They always welcomed us with a big smile. Momma always reminded us when she was making dolmadas so that we could get them fresh. They even gave us complimentary rakis all the time maybe because we visited so often.

Atmosphere - the best view of the lake hands down. Its layout is such that it can never get too noisy. The service was always fast. Always ask what they would recommend and you will be good.

All in all, I will keep coming back here whenever...

Reading your comments I found a couple with bad reviews...my comments on them: Mr Nicolas Cantigneau, i regret that you were not happy with your service, as suprising it may be (i have been to that place several times during the last yesrs and service has been always exceptional) but I suppose everyone can have a bad day, after all they say that excemptions confirm the rules...please try it again if you visit Crete.

Mr Pipsa Saarento, i wonder how you visited Ambrosia in November-December since it closes before the end of October...as for your comment about the food, it has no relation to reality, maybe you have other issues with...
