A Hidden Gem with a View!
Taverna Athitis is the kind of culinary discovery every traveler hopes to make. Beautifully situated on higher ground overlooking the lake, it offers stunning panoramic views, especially enchanting in the evening, when the setting sun casts a golden glow over the water. The window seats in particular provide a truly memorable dining atmosphere.
This is an 100% authentic Greek grill restaurant that focuses on traditional specialties, expertly prepared and full of flavor. We sampled a wide variety of grilled meats, each cooked to perfection – tender, well-seasoned, and exceptionally tasty. Alongside these, we enjoyed a selection of classic Greek starters. Everything was fresh, delicious, and unmistakably local.
One of the standout aspects of Taverna Artis is its outstanding value for money. For a full dinner for four, including appetizers, main courses, and drinks we paid less than €50, without compromising on quality or experience. In an era where great dining often comes at a steep price, this was a welcome and refreshing exception.
Importantly, this is not a tourist-trap restaurant. Taverna Athitis is where locals come to enjoy genuine Greek food in a relaxed, authentic setting. It’s a place that prioritizes substance over show – and delivers on every level.
In summary: A true hidden gem offering breathtaking views, honest and delicious cuisine, and exceptional value. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience real Greek hospitality away from the usual...
Read moreThe food was really delicious and the best we had on Crete so far (3 separate visits on Crete). The view on the Kournas Lake is also very good and breathtaking. Unfortunately these doesn’t come with 5-star service, the service is just ok’ish: there isn’t any „no smoking” zone, so just a random guy/woman can spoil the entire experience when smoking at the table next to you, the service doesn’t come again to the table, so after initial order they don’t check if you liked the food and if you need to order more, there is no coffee available except for espresso (that isn’t even included in the menu), which is a bit strange as Greeks supposedly love Fredo Espresso and Fredo Cappuccino. Also forget about Frappe, not every table had napkins on it, service not very thankful...
Read moreSuch a great experience! We went here because of the great reviews and they were not lying. The first thing that happened was that a lovely lady gave us a table with an amazing view over the lake.
When we were ordering the food she was just so nice, making sure that the food we ordered was a good fit for the kids. We had some fried zucchinis as a starter and to be honest, there was a lot and tasted really nice. Then we had really big portions of souvlaki and bifteki and the feeling we all felt afterwards that we failed the chef, because we could not finish all of the plates. Unfortunately we will not be going there again during this holiday, but I hope a lot of you give this great...
