This place is a total tourists trap. Overpriced small portions, and they seriously push for you to order more appetisers, quite annoying selling techniques. We got served the smallest Greek salad I've ever seen in Greece, probably 1/3 of the usual size. They serve the mains without any sides, unlike any other taverna we've come across. They bring a tiny portion of bread (4 slices for 5 people!), then they have the nerve to charge you for it (again, it's free everywhere else!). We paid 6 euros for the bread, which is absolutely ridiculous. They serve the beer glasses only 2/3 full... We were nearly the only customers there and still we had to chase them up for more bread or anything else. And the cherry on the top was that they were hose-washing the place while customers present, so the entire part which leads to the toilets, the tiled stairs and the toilets were covered by the water and we slipped on the stairs. When I asked if we can use the toilet they actually showed us the way instead of warning us that it's more like a shallow pool than a loo. My child actually fell of the stairs and hurt his hands. The waitress-owner is hugely unpleasant and rude. The food is OK, but nothing to rave about. They charged us a ridiculous 8 euros for a tiny kids portion that was not on the menu (2 sausages in pitta and a little chips). The apple juice was the cheapest kind from concentrate with old bits swimming in it, my child didn't even want to have it, and you pay like it's the good kind.
I reckon that all the positive reviews are not genuine, since there's no way this rubbish place could get so many great reviews. There are lots of lovely tavernas in Crete, do yourself a favour and avoid this inhospitable...
Read moreTL;DR Great place, nice view, friendly waiters with big heart, good food, cold raki and beer.
Detailed review: Like most of us, we went in search of a nice place to eat on the first night of our vacation. Pelagias Yard caught our attention and to be honest, that's the reason we use trustpilot, we decided to go there because of the good reviews. In fact, we liked it there so much that we ate only in this tavern during our 12 days vacation.
The place is very cozy and nicely located, near the main road but away from all the hustle and bustle. We also enjoyed the view of the mountains, which almost all other restaurants do not offer and leave you looking at the busy main road. The kids also have an area to play.
The food is delicious and down to earth, usually with fries on the side, but you can always order baked potatos or something else instead. There are also different main dishes every day and incredible desserts. Also vegetarians will have something to choose from.
If you order a steak, I would recommend specifying the degree of doneness you want. It is usually cooked well done. The meat from the wood oven was always delicious.
All the waiters are very friendly, attentive, speak English and other languages.
We are very glad that we discovered this place and think that you should visit it at least once!
P.S. Thank you to all the members of Pelagias Yard, it was a pleasure to eat, drink and dance with you. You are all very charming people with a big warm heart. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to...
Read moreWe spent 1 week in crete right next to this lovely restaurant in Argiri apartments (which I also highly recommend). First of all this is a cozy, family like atmosphere kind of place. Nice garden, toys for the children, and for adults as well, like board games. We played a lot after or even during dinner :). The waitress lady, who is also the owner, is the kindest, friendliest waitress you will ever see. She waved at us with a big smile even when we went elsewhere. The food is superb, and in good price. We ate there almost every day. The cukkini balls were fantastic, and so were every meat. If you go there for dinner and you are a bit late you might have to wait a little. One time there was lots of people and we had to wait a bit long like 40 minutes, but you must understand that this is a family business with self made imgridients, served and cooked by the family. We sat there with this mentality and instead of getting angry we were happy that this fine place has so many guests in this hard and uncertain time. Not to mention they always asked how we feel, and even gave us free drinks in the end. (Well almost every time tbh :D) The view is wonderful you can see the mountains, and you feel like you are home. The other waiter is also very friendly and funny we had a great time there every time we went there. We wish that we made a picture with the staff, but we forgot to... So this means we have to go back sometime! :) Thank you for making our holiday even better, and thanks all...
