Wow - the busiest place we have been during our stay in Crete, and for a reason - the beach in front is fantastic, so calm and a peaceful bay, I would probably leave there one day and try work in this restaurant - although it was a Saturday lunch and the place was super full, we were greeted with a smile and with care, immediately accommodated with a sea view table ( probably easier because we were only 2 of us) although any table would do - amazing food really - every server who has touched the table (more than seven of them) was respectful and really great at their job - everything we order was fantastic, fresh and great presented - by far the best meal under any aspect - owner seemed worried and attentive to every small details although not necessarily because the staff is mega - we have had 3 fish plates a side of fresh veg and tatziky with 2 round of bread and half liter of wine, of course as standard on the island, bill is presented with free rakyje and baclava ( sensational touch) - 55€ only - I would have paid way more honestly - well deserved - 10...
Read moreWe were a group of 8 and we ordered many things. The food was ok. No one complained about it.
Remarks:: The grilled octopus was a bit sour. The fried fish/calamari had no salt, but you can add it later. You receive a slice of lemon for them and no sauce. The octopus salad had cold octopus in it. The sea bass portion is not that big and comes with few grilled vegetables. If you have cabbage with rice and pork in your country, don't try the ones with seafood, as it's the same taste 😅 and you'll receive 4 big pieces.
Pros:: The saganaki and the fried potatoes were really good. Wine comes in small bottles and it has a good flavor. Also, we received some small yoghurt based pastries at the end which were delightful.
Cons:: What made us upset was the fact that they put a bread on the table (one bread that you can buy with 1€) and we ate like max. 3 slices and on the receipt we had 12.8€ added for the bread (1.6€ each). This is pure theft. You just can't deceive your client like that 😐 It should be their option to order bread or not. We left no tips...
Read moreWe arrived around 2pm on a Sunday and the place was packed with Cretan families which was a good sign. Not anticipating this and it being low season we hadn't booked but the friendly waiter running the bookings found us a table as long as we could wait 10 minutes, which wasn't a problem. It did take a bit of time to get shown a menu and then order but it was very busy, the staff weren't idling around, they were all carrying food to and from tables.
We ordered the octopus salad (tremendous), house white wine which is common in Crete, prawn pasta and grouper fricassė. I opted for the grouper as I hadn't eaten it before, likely won't again. The prawn pasta didn't blow us away either as the pasta was a little overcooked. All in a good experience but we had hoped for outstanding fish-dishes, maybe we didn't pick the right ones. We paid around €60 for 500ml house wine, 2 starters and 2 mains, and like all of Crete, you get a small dessert and raki on the house.
Great view over Marathi Bay, you're right next to it if you get a good seat. The toilets...
