Sunset Cafe Bar — Restaurant in Municipality of Chania

It is indeed very sad for me to write a bad review on google... the one good thing about this is the fact that this specific review does not reflect crete at all! We have met so many outstanding restaurants on this island that this one is not a reference to anything or anyone else.

Location The beach bar/taverna is located on the west side of Stavros. the location was looking amazing, this is why we went there. it has all of the carribean flair with palm leaves, decoration and beautiful sand. This really made us feel very welcome. It kind of has that hippie look you are feeling very comfortable right away. The toilett by the way looks very naturall too. You know.. that hole on the floor most of the people do not know how to use properly? Sadly it was not clean and looked very run down.

Drinks, food and prices We ordered the shrimp menu and two margheritas. The drinks were medium sized and had an average to good taste. The shrimps (only 6 pcs/pieces) were average to good too. We recieved a lot of bread to it. As it is common on the island you recieve two small drinks at the end. Eighter Raki or Limoncello. Usually you get a small bottle of it, in this case only two shot glasses accompanied with a few cherry fruits. The ugly thing about this was the price. It costed us EUR 30.00 wich is (to say it in the words of our places renter) a „robbery“. It is indeed unusual to charge that much in crete. This is not because i do not want to pay more for good food, but because with this price you usually recieve 500ml white wine, starter plates, main courses and desserts for two to three people. In the end we ate 6 medium sized shrimps with bread and two medium sized cocktails for EUR 30.-. Even in Switzerland where we are from this would be slightly too much..

Waitor/Service We were served by what we think was the owner of this place. A lady most likely coming from France in the past. She told us that this place was 25 years run by her. We did not know if she was too busy at that time but when my girlfriend told her she needed some more time to decide what she wanted to eat her reply was something like: „Other customers are waiting, she will be back in 3-4minutes for iur decision“. I guess this might have been true if the bar was even half full, but since they are prepairing the meals in an RV (yeah, that thing for camping) we guessed there might be a few logistic problems. We recieved everything pretty fast in the end. You might say that if they are charging so much from their customer you could experience a luxourious feeling with it, but when two children were taking a shower right next to the bar it took the lady only 2 short minutes to go to the kids to yell at them that water „is very precious“ for wich she is absolutely right in gereall by the way , but as a high paying customer you can surely take a shower for longer than 2 minutes i hope..? The waitor in gernerall looked very sad. I guess there are severe problems behind the scenes. Poor guys/girls..

Fazit Not recommended by families, single travellers or anyone else unless you want to pay EUR 30.- for alomst nothing. Let‘s say two drinks for mom and dad and 4 meals including zhe kids would be around EUR 70.- i guess? And believe me, no one would be satisfied at the end.. 🤔

I sad that I have to write this review. I was first time in Sunset Cafe Bar in 2014, was realy excited from food, people, everything. After that I was there almost every yaer. And every year is worse and worse. This year I have to say, that isn't the bar wchich I knew in 2014. Many negative reviews below is really thrue. The staff with the owener is really unplesant, one of the man (short hair) from the staff is really rude, arogant. I felt that the staff is tired, their work do not them make a happy. The owener told us, that the table for us (six people) is to big and she command that we have to change the table, although the restaurant was empty. After 15 minutes she sat two guest at these big table. Absurdity... :-D The food is realy poor, ordinary. The portion is really small and price to hight. And WC? When my 3 years old son saw the turkish toilet he stop the call of nature. Only what was remain is really magic location, nice music, good drink, seaview. But I am little afraid if the municipal will build a sevage plantation there, remain nothing. I will keep the fingers crose, hope there will be no sewage plant, and the bar will be better as...

I've been visiting Stavros Sunset restaurant-bar more than a decade. To be honest this year I was much disappointed from the owner and the quality of service. We arrived at approximately 21:00. To my disappointment most of the tables were reserved!! although they were empty but we managed to share a table with another family. Malika the owner informed us that food is served only until 21:00 (midsummer restaurant at Crete and they don't serve food after 21:00??? where exactly are we at 5 star hotel at Switzerland? Where everything closes after 20:00.sorry guys no hard feelings but we live in Greece!). Anyway! She said we serve only drinks at this hour. OK I say I will not let anyone ruin our night. Do you have a catalogue? No she said Iam the catalogue. She murmured something with Jin fizz as an option and another one with Jin base. Any other cocktail? With Vodka? Yes (yes what?) anyway we ordered the one with Jin tea or something. The result was a cocktail which we was not a cocktail at all and we paid 16 euros which of course were not worth it!
