Ta Gourounakia (The little pigs) — Restaurant in Municipality of Chania

This was my first meal after a long journey from the Sataes. Recommended by my son who lives near by. Great traditional local offerings. A very generous list of options from the grill. We started with stuffed fried cheese, very good. Next turnip roots, very mild in flavor but Cooke perfect chilled and finished with some local olive oil also very good. For our entrees my son chose grilled pork kabob a very large portion tha he said were very good. My wife enjoyed her pork schnitzel with a white mushroom cream sauce also very well done. The sauce was a good addition and worked well with the pork. I chose the grilled pork carpaccio, mostly because I was curious ho they would pull tis off. Not really a carpaccio in the truest sense, more of a scalopini cut. Don't let this dissuade you from ordering it, however , the cut it was very hood. All of our meals were served with the house french fries, nicely cooked. We each had a glass of wine and some fresh bread. Service was great an attentive but not overly done.. all in all this is a great restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The meal for three was just shy of 50 euro more than fare. Great spot for delicious Greek barbecue and meat selections. Everything is grilled over an open charcoal pit giving it that great authentic taste, and the quantities are massive! We ordered the pork gyro portions, the Cretan salad, and the small mix plate. The gyro was enough for 3 days worth of food, the small mix grill plate fed two of us but it might be enough for one hungry individual to manage on their own, and the salad was fresh and delicious. In addition, every meal comes with warm bread, watermelon dessert, and a shot of rocky at the end! Nice touch. The only complaint I really have is that I wish the meat was a little more tender. Parking is on the street or in a dirt lot across the way. I think I'll be back...

Ormai sono anni che, o all'arrivo all'aeroporto di chania o in partenza, andiamo in questo posticino a pochi km di distanza, per l'ultimo pasto prima del rientro o per il primo all'arrivo...stavolta era un pranzo alle 16, visto il ritardo di un ora del volo in arrivo...abbiamo preso una insalatona cretese, patate fritte con feta e timo e una pita classica...con una birra media alla spina e acqua naturale...come sempre porzioni super abbondanti (tant'è che della pita mi son fatto fare il "paketo" e mangiata il giorno dopo in spiaggia, ancora ottima) e super appetitose e prezzi ottimi...servizio gentile come al solito...offerto ottimo dolce tipo salame al cioccolato e fiaschetta di buon raki...spesa totale di € 23,20...siamo poi tornati una sera, verso la fine della vacanza, abbiamo mangiato sempre bene, ordinando patate fritte con feta sbriciolata in cima (€ 4,70), involtini di vite ripieni (€ 6,30), tyrokafteri (€ 4,20), funghi grigliati (€ 5,50), crocchette di formaggio (€5,80), mezzo litro di vino rosso semidolce (€ 4,50), acqua (€ 1) e pane (€ 1,20), offerto salame di cioccolato e raki, totale di € 34,40, tutto squisito e abbondante, involtini di vite, crocchette ripiene di fornaggio e tirokafteri il top, unica pecca i funghi grigliati, un po' sciapi, ma tra i tanti ragazzi di solito cortesi al servizio, quella sera siamo incappati in fase di ordine con un cameriere davvero poco garbato, che invece di cercare di favorire la comunicazione col cliente si è comportato in modo scostante, parlando un inglese poco comprensibile mangiandosi le parole, ripetendo in modo idiota le stesse parole a macchinetta quando non capivamo quel che diceva e chiedevamo ulteriori spiegazioni e senza dare nessuna spiegazione del perché tutti i piatti cucinati in casseruola presenti nel menù (pastitio, boureki, etc) non erano disponibili, ma solo un ripetuto laconico a mezza bocca "stasera non abbiamo questo piatto"...in seguito ci siamo ovviamente rivolti ad altro cameriere, che era garbato come gli altri in passato...peccato presentare personale di servizio così scorbutico, francamente uno così sarebbe da mettere a lavorare in retrovia in cucina e non certo ai tavoli a rapportarsi...
