We have selected the place as my friend is pescatarian and it’s not easy to find a good fish tavern in Athens (excluding high end restaurants).
The food was better than expected, everything we had was delicious for reasonable prices. Me personally did not enjoy taramasalata, could be more creamy. Sea-bass was fresh and well cooked.
To be honest I think this Tavern deserves a 5 start but it was unfortunate that we had a bad experience with one of the employee responsible for the welcoming of customers.
Not that only we felt xenophobia but also got insulted for no reason. Here how it goes : We arrive the restaurant with my friend while my Greek husband was parking.
We asked if we can have a table outside and they asked if we have a reservation. We did not have a reservation and the employee did not want to check his notebook or he knew already and he said in Greek “I don’t have even a single chair both inside and outside”. I was surprised that we needed a reservation for Thursday evening early 7 o clock. (Because everybody knows we have our dinner kind of late in Greece.)
After I make the comment “Aa ok and it’s Thursday waow” again in Greek, I had to hear “Thursdays are small Saturdays for us in Greece as you know”.
Very well, if a tavern is full we can find another one. But after last comment with the attitude of the employee I felt insulted because he made it obvious that he did not want us to eat there.
While we were looking for another tavern, just 2 minutes after my husband came, asking the same question and they gave him a table (also seems like he checked his tablet and find an available place for him).
Of course we were surprised how come he can have a table but we cannot and there was no clear explanation but the indication of a rude employee scenario.
That’s why it wouldn’t be fair to blame the tavern for the situation but it had to be mentioned so you know what you...
Read moreThis place was recommended by my Greek friend and my god he was right! We decided to do more like a “tapas” kind of lunch. For two of us we ordered as is customary… a Greek salad which was really fresh and could feed a small island! Obviously we had beer and the house white wine. We had fried anchovies, calamari, octopus in olive oil and vinegar and one local fried cheese (do not ask us about the names of the dishes as we do not know!!). Trust us that the food was amazing! The seafood was fresh and so tasty….!!! Service was great, super friendly and always ready to help you. Highly recommend restaurant. A restaurant hidden in a neighborhood with a n...
Read moreOur go to fish restaurant in the “northern” parts of Athens. This little gem of a place has been around for decades and for a reason. The quality is always top notch and the prices very reasonable for fish of this quality. You would easily pay x1.5 or even x2 the price near the sea for often inferior quality. Our favorite starters include the smoked eel, cherry tomatoes with capers, fried “atherina” (small fish), fried zucchini and tzatziki. Then typically the Sole or a red snapper steak (yes steak as they often have a 8-10kg fish if you go early enough). One advice is to book well in advance as they are most often fully booked, especially...
