O Mitos Cretan Food — Restaurant in Municipality of Kallithea

You can never guess what’s in store for you as you enter this traditional coffee shop located in a small street close to the center of Athens. I’ve been here many times with friends, and they would always look at me in disbelief: “this can’t be the place”! But this is really a piece of Crete, outside Crete. The moment you open the door, you’re leaving Athens like through a magic pathway that takes you straight to some little Cretan village. Their food catalogue is otherworldly, it’s never ending... I like almost every dish, and everything tastes like it should. I feel at home at this place; the food, the people, the music, everything is authentic to a fault. If I would voice a complaint, it’s that it’s a smoker’s paradise, so I just avoid coming on Saturday nights, when it’s really crowded. Other than that: perfection. Best time to visit:...

Visited on a Sunday after calling to ask for a table. Showed up on time. Got seated. It took 20 minutes to take the order. It took 35 minutes for the salad to show up with no bread. They ran out of bread but still brought tzatziki. After 30 more minutes of bringing plates in a very random order while skipping a few, I decided to pay and leave. Took another 10 minutes standing by the cash register for the cook to come do the bill. When I politely suggested, if you couldn't serve and it was just a difficult night, you could save us all the trouble by turning me down when I called. When you ran out of bread, get bread! I would understand if it was a one-off but read the reviews... Food is better than average but service is...

We came here as tourists from Canada and when planning our trip, I found this place completely by accident. I am so glad I did!

The owner(?) who served us was so amazing and kind. The food was amazing and some of the best calamari I have ever had!

Our most recommended dishes are the loukanikos and the calamari.

It was our first night in Greece and we were treated like locals— it was such an awesome experience.

For fellow Canadians, the beer is $5.53 CAD. Such a great price for a very nice beer served with an ice cold glass.
