Hello,
I wanted to share my recent experience dining at Taverna Meze Athera. From the outside, the restaurant appeared quite inviting and clean, which raised my expectations. Their high Google rating, especially for seafood, further encouraged me to visit.
My experience, however, did not quite meet my expectations. Although the restaurant promotes itself as a seafood haven, I was surprised to find that only one local French fish was available, priced at approximately 36 euros for 600 grams. As someone from Sweden, where living costs are quite high, even in our capital, such a price for a fish dinner seemed excessive. Additionally, I had hoped for a wider selection of fresh seafood, but most of the other options appeared to be frozen rather than fresh, which was not what I had anticipated.
Regarding the meal, I noticed that no butter was served with the bread and no olive oil was offered, which was unexpected considering Greece is renowned for its abundant olive oil.
On a positive note, the waitress provided excellent and attentive service, answering questions and ensuring we were comfortable throughout our visit. I truly appreciated their helpfulness and professionalism.
I understand that restaurants can have off days, and I hope the menu might expand in the future to offer more fresh seafood choices. Thank you for your attention to my feedback. I wish you continued success and look forward to seeing how you develop your...
Read moreAfter a series of disappointing meals on the island this year, I was beginning to think that Karpathos might not have much to offer in terms of great dining. But then I stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant, and I’m so glad I did. We decided to try the shrimp pasta, Karpathian salad, sardines, and fried zucchini, and I have to say, everything was absolutely delicious. The shrimp pasta was a real highlight—rich, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. The Karpathian salad was fresh and full of local character, a great reminder of why I love the food here. The sardines were perfectly grilled, with that lovely taste of the sea, and the fried zucchini—crispy and light—was the perfect side. But what really made the evening special was the staff. They were so friendly and attentive, making us feel genuinely welcome. It’s rare these days to find a place where the service is as good as the food, but this restaurant really nailed it. Overall, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. If you’re in Karpathos and looking for a spot that gets both the food and the service right, I can’t recommend this...
Read moreWe had an amazing time. We came to Finiki to see the town but we decided to also eat here. When we saw the good reviews we immediately decided to choose Athera, and it was worth it. The food was amazing and also the serving. The staff is really friendly. The place is cute and clean, we had on the table salt and pepper, napkins and also toothpicks, things that we didn't found everywhere we went. The lion fish that was fresh tasted amazing and the gyro was also good. If you think about eating in Finiki choose Athera . Update: we came three times to this taverna because we liked it way to much. Every time was even better. Maria was a pleasure to meet and to talk to, we shared lots of things about our lives and about living in Karpathos. Kisses to everyone...
