Hands down, this was out best dining experience in karpathos for many reasons.
Food For appetizers we had grilled atherina (small fish), pickled octopus, mini shrimps, zucchini blossoms & garlic bread. Everything was perfect & fresh. However, we were shocked on how good our main dishes were. We had grilled stripped red mullets (barbounia) & lion fish. I don’t recall having tried such perfectly cooked fish for many years. Cooking time, flavor & sides were all done to perfection!
Owner Although the food was the best we had in karpathos, the experience was tailored with the help of the owner, Nektarios. He sat with us and shared stories regarding “kokona” - the nickname of the restaurant - the island, the people of the island and many more. By that time, we had the impression that he was our friend, a family member, and not just the owner of the taverna. We stayed in the table and storytelling long passed the closure of the taverna.
I am sure that many years from now when I will recall the vacations in karpathos this is the experience that I will instantly remember. Sitting in kokona and sharing stories with Nektarios!
Thank you for this amazing...
Read moreWe spent one week in Finiki this year (early June) and after our first dinner at Mama Cuisine it was clear that this is gonna be our „home tavern“ during our stay. Nektarios, the owner, is the most welcoming character. He makes you feel special and it is a pleasure to be his guest. Antonio, the Italian, is another strong character sailing this ship. He will make you stare at the mountain next to the bay and assure you there is one rock in the shape of Diego Maradonna. He was also the one who invited the „catch of the week“ to the tavern - the new stand in chef Raffaella who spontaneously decided to help out in the kitchen even though she just went there for holidays. All in all a great tavern, beautiful location, amazing people, great food and wine (I recommend the appetizer mix and fresh fish) - and of course some Raki on the house to finish up a perfect greek evening. We will be back for sure 👌

Read moreNice little place down in the Finiki docks area. The restaurant is located in a corner in the village which makes room for more guests. This seem like a Good thing due the place was kinda filled with people and cats. Yeah cats, cats everywhere. Some of the guests fed them and that seem like a bad idea. A nice variaty of food to choose from. Mostly seafood which Finiki is known for. Thats why we went there. I ate the swordfish and my gf the greek sallad. I must admit we both were a little disappointed. Mainly because we waited a long time for our food. Then they didn't bring us the starters first but with the main course. The greek sallad was mostly vegetables. Not enough cheese. The swordfish was alright however the amount of fries could have been bigger. Anyways... all in all I don't think we'll visit the place anytime soon....
