Upon arrival in Zia we had ourselves a look around and decided to get some dinner in Taverna Avli to our disappointment the evening did not go quiet as planned. We got a table out front with a gorgeous view but almost as soon as we placed our order things began to go downhill. Our server who was lovely to begin with took our order and all seemed well until 1 out of the 2 drinks we had ordered made it's way to our table. The second was nowhere to be seen after eventually getting the attention of the server, in a not packed setting I might add, we waited a further 10 mins for a pint of local beer to arrive. Eventually the starters we order arrived first my partners followed 5 minutes later by mine. Nothing extravagant as she ordered the calamari and I had the saganaki. The calamari was appalling it was like chewing a rubber band. We hadn't had our table cleared of the starter dishes and the server brought the mains and tried to insist we use the same cutlery for the main dish. This was a big no from me as it should be in any establishment! I then insisted on new cutlery which to be honest was still a waste of time as when the mains arrived it was a pretty poor showing indeed! Disappointment of the meal made us decide not to stay and purchase any drinks here but instead enjoy the sunset in a much better place. Sad to say we will not be recommending this restaurant which is a shame giving its stunning view and...
Read moreVisited here after walking round Zia for the afternoon, initially pulled us in due to the location and appeared busy. On arrival we were taken to a seat, the service was initially ok although we had to wait a while as per previous reviews. Our starters didn’t come together, however I put it down to it being busy.
What was not acceptable was the rudeness of the staff on point of payment, due to the length of waiting, we decided to pay at the till. Our card wouldn’t register on their machine (had no problems with anyone else’s machine before or since the visit here), but apparently it wasn’t their fault at all! One particular staff member who was taking payments from customers was extremely rude and told my partner to ‘hurry up’. This is very unexceptional behaviour and felt they did not care about its customers, just getting people in and out as quickly as possible. One of the staff members who served us at the table snatched my partners card off her in a bid to get us paying quicker which left her quite upset, a massive negative on a lovely afternoon. Beautiful views and sunset but definitely better places to eat!
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND...
Read moreWe wanted to eat while enjoying the sunset, already ordered and the waitress allowed us to switch the tables as soon as the other couple left, so that we'd be sitting front row. But as we did another waiter arrived and said that it wasn't our table. We tried to explain that the woman, we ordered our drinks with, said it's okay to switch tables. Soon two other waiters arrived and said that was not the case. She never said that and since she is not the boss we need to get back to the original one (there were plenty of empty tables btw). When I asked to speak to the boss the young boy said the boss is busy. So we left without eating. That's not a way to treat paying customers. The staff really needs to figure out a way to actually communicate with people in English. They didn't fully understand and even with Google translator and the Greek language it didn't work. I wouldn't recommend going there. Especially since the restaurant across the street has absolutely phenomenal...
