Taverna located on the inside street with no view of the ocean. What it lacks in view is made up for in food quality.
The service was efficient and helpful. They brought us the menu but, the nice man basically just order for us which was great because everything he picked was amazing.
We sincerely wanted to order the whole menu but didn’t have room. This place fills up quick and was constantly busy from the time we arrived until leaving. I’d suggest getting there right when they open or be prepared to wait a few hours.
We ordered:
Tomatoes salad- this is a Greek salad without the feta cheese Smoked anchovies Fried red mullet fish- so amazing and better than the sardines. This was the waiters favorite dish White beans- this was the most unsuspected dish. It looked kind of meh but wow it was so good. I could have did another order of this if I had room. We never really order brands or frankly care for brands but these were amazing. Octopus in wine- this was underwhelming and a miss for us. We usually like it grilled and tender but this although had good flavor the texture was dry and stringy Raw clams- the picture on google ladles this as raw oysters but they’re definitely clams. The flavor of these were wonderful. Sweet and crunchy however, they were very thin and not meaty at all. Some of them looked like it was empty shell. Maybe it was the wrong season but this one is. Maybe for me. Grilled calamari- this was good but I recommend getting it fried. There was good grill flavor and char but it was a bit tough. The...
Read moreOne of the best fish taverns on the island of Mytilene. It is one of the few fish taverns that stays open throughout the whole year. Also it is highly visited by the locals. Located right across from the public parking in the center of the city of Mytilene, one may not say that it has a nice view but the cooking and the freshness of their plates is paying off to the maximum!
I visit Mytilene often either for vacation or for business purposes. I choose Apagkio every time because I love fish and the way they grill it. This time I had kydonia ( cockles) and other shellfish with steamed wild local greens, a quarter of whole wheat bread grilled with olive oil and oregano and a glass of local ouzo. All these would be enough to feed two people and I only had to pay 12,5 € ! Desert is always on the house and it it seasonal. Between Greek yoghurt with cherry compote and halva I chose halva :) Deliciously amazing! Service is excellent and I also had a special treatment because I only had limited time to my flight time. Thank you all in Apagkio! Keep up the great work! Until...
Read moreI am amazed by this little taverna! Don't expect them to speak perfect English, it's the place where locals go ( you'll see people knowing the menu by heart). The variety of medze and fresh fish is wonderful ( not all of it is on the menu, so ask). We had baked fish with green veggies ( amazing!), fried calamari ( it was the lightest fried food I ever had!), a plate of fuskes/wild muscles/fresh clams ( délicatesse!), fried zucchini flowers with cheese ( super tasty), fava beans (loved it!), marinated anchovies ( delicious!), all of it accompanied with very good white wine. The price is great and I suggest going there on the earlier side, it gets busy fast. It's easily one of my top 3 restaurants! (hevent got many photos, the food was...
