Amazing lunch overlooking the beach! The restaurant is super cute with ample shade and protection from the wind, plus a cute helper dog. Immediately upon sitting the owner threw some sourdough on the grill and brought it for us to snack on with our drinks. After ordering the lamb chops, we watched them chop them off and add them straight to the grill. We had the Naxos salad, and the lamb chops ended up being some of the best we ever had (and the dog was given a bone at the end by the owner, much to our relief). After we finished, he brought fresh fruit (we think sour green plums after a lengthy discussion with the wonder via google translate and images - he spoke more English than we spoke Greek, but it was a fun conversation given that was very little for both of us), which he told us was supplied by his friends farm just up the way. We loved the Kalimera Grill. It was our go-to option to eat at Apollonas over 4 days. It's run by a family that is very friendly and nice. Service is a bit slow, but in such a relaxed village, we have nothing but time!
Food is generally great. It is a traditional taverna with an outdoor grill. The fresh seafood is the best, as is the slow cooked meat. What are not so great are the gyros, which is ok because they don't have a gyro, so it's grilled meat which is diced. My partner is vegetarian, and they were very accommodating. Excellent location for lunch overlooking the harbor!
I had a Greek salad and it was delicious - unfortunately, my wife thought so too, and I ended up sharing it with her?!
She had grilled shrimp and eggplant dip w Pita. Also good, but the shrimp were difficult and messy to peel (the waiter later told us that’s because the shrimp have been frozen…)
We also enjoyed 1/2 liter of house wine and it was a touch sweet but very tasty and a perfect accompaniment to our lunch on his hot...
