If I Lived in Greece, Rooster Would Be My Second Home (and My First Kitchen)
Let me preface this by saying: as a visitor in Greece, I’ve read way too many glowing reviews for restaurants that turned out to be, well… wildly generous. If “just okay” had a fan club, half the tavernas would be running for president. So, with expectations properly adjusted and my taste buds cautiously optimistic, I walked into Rooster and folks, I was not ready.
Straight off the bat? The decor. Absolutely nailed it. Think Mediterranean chic meets urban comfort. Cozy, classy, and effortlessly cool. The atmosphere had that rare hum of a place that knows exactly who it is, and the bonus? A smoking and non-smoking section. That’s right. Smokers get their space, non-smokers keep their lungs. Everyone wins. Revolutionary.
Our waiter greeted us like we were longtime friends, and to our delight, opened with a cold tomato soup that was nothing short of a masterpiece. I don’t know what magic was in that bowl, but it cooled me down faster than a dip in the Aegean.
For starters, we shared the Sarikopita pie, aubergine rolls, and a Greek salad. Each one delivered bold flavors with balance and texture, crispy, creamy, fresh, savory. Like a well-rehearsed band hitting every note.
Main courses? A culinary symphony. The chicken schnitzel was golden and crisp, yet juicy on the inside. The Kleftiko (slow-cooked lamb for the uninitiated) melted into the fork with whispers of herb and citrus. And the Burrata with rigatoni? Creamy, rich, and satisfying without being heavy. Every dish was seasoned and cooked to perfection, chef’s kiss.
And then came dessert. I wish I could give you a name, but all I can say is: imagine a slice of heaven with coconut, cinnamon, chocolate, whipped cream, and a beautiful crust. I don’t know if I ate it or if it ate a little piece of my soul—but I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.
In short: ignore the other reviews, many of which have led me astray on this trip. This isn’t just another tourist-trap eatery with decent food and a view. Rooster is the real deal a place where love for food, great service, and hospitality come together in harmony.
If you’re in town, go to Rooster. Just go. You’ll thank me later. And if I were a local? You’d find me at Rooster, probably with tomato soup in one hand and a forkful of kleftiko...
Read moreAbsolutely exquisite dining experience in the heart of Patra at Trion Navarhon street. A little impressive hideaway with masses of personality and style. The decoration is A class and the staff are well presented, polite and very knowledgeable of their menu and wine list. Not only the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food, but they also offer you a tasty warm soup as a 1st plate free of charge. Unlike other places they did not charge the bread that is served in a hard wood container with herby butter on the side! The 1L bottle of water that is been served for you in a wine shaped glass costs only €2. Further more the food comes out in the order it's supposed to, and the waiters watch from afar without making you feel pressured to assist with clearing the table and serving the next dish! The chef is obviously very experienced and proud of their work, and they even offer you freebies to make sure you enjoy your evening and you taste their cuisine. Furthermore you also enjoy chocolate mousse desert on the house to help you wash the flavours down. I'd recommend it confidently to anyone. I will be back with more guests next time. This place deserves to do well and to be known to us all. Keep up the good work guys. We will be back soon. Thank you for a...
Read moreI was intrigued by the reviews I have seen for Rooster and today I had the pleasure to experience it first hand. Without being "extravagant" all dishes were really special. Good ingredients, well seasoned and cooked, full of flavour even in seemingly simple or "traditional" recipes. The food alone would justify a 5 star rating but that was not all! The service was also excellent. We were impressed from the fact that we were served with a welcome dish (one of the best soups I have tasted) and treated with an extra appetizer, "on the house". I must also note that the prices were quite reasonable considering the quality of the food and the service. A real gem, will definitely visit many times more in the future.
In my third visit for a family lunch, in an admiringly busy Sunday noon, I can note that the food remains at high standards (perhaps a small reduction in the portions but nothing that would count as negative). The service was kind of slow this time but it is probably understandable. What can be improved is ti add more choices for drinks (currently only two options of house...
