Georgiou I Square was built under the Kapodistrias government as a part of the 1829 plans by Stamatis Voulgaris to rebuild the devastated centre of Patras after the Greek War of Independence. Unlike the old city, the new city was built according to a grid plan with several large squares. The square has been renamed several times: Dimokratias at first, then Kalamogdarti, Othonos, Kentriki, Thomopoulou, Ethniki, Palligenesias and since 1863 Georgiou I. In the square there are two fountains, constructed in Denmark.

This square of Patras, once a gem of the city, is now completely abandoned! The two beautiful fountains are covered in graffiti and instead of water the fountains are filled with trash☹

The Apollo theater, a historical building, miniature of the famous La Scala of Italy, is also abandoned, covered in graffiti, on it's bottom walls, and doors, and the marble staircase is cracked in several places along the steps and is stained with ink and urine. Really disappointing!

I wonder if the officials of this city pay any attention to all this or they just simply ignore the...

Θα ελεγα ο.τι ειναι η μεγαλυτερη πλατεια της πολης των Πατρων κοσμουμενη με δυο συντριβανια τα οποια εχουν φθασει στην πολη μας απο τη Γαλλια !!!! περιτριγυρισμενη απο τι Θεατρο ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝ σε σχεδια του αρχιτεκτονα Ερνεστο Τσιλλερ !! Το υπεροχο !! κτιριο που στεγαζεται τωρα η Εθνικη Τραπεζα καθως και αυτο του Εμπορικου Συλλογου " Ο ΕΡΜΗΣ"!! Ειναι η κεντρικη πλατεια της Πολης και λαμβανουν χωρα κατα καιρους διαφορες εκδηλωσεις!! Εχουν εγκατασταθει γυρω απο την πλατεια καφετεριες οπου μπορεις να απολαυσεις τον καφε σου και να ξεκουραστεις στο ανοιγμα του οριζοντα!! και της ομορφιας των κτιριων!! που απεμειναν!! Διαθετει δυο περιπτερα και στο επανω μερος της πλατειας πιστευω ο.τι λειτουργουν ακομα υπογειες δημοσιες τουαλετες!! Υπαρχει αμεση προσβαση στην πλατεια απο τις περιοχες της Πατρας πολυ εξυπηρετουνται με τις γραμμες των λεωφορειων 2 3 και 6 !! οι υπολοιπες γραμμες λεωφορειων εχουν σταση σε παραπλησιες οδους!! Απο την πλατεια Βασιλεως Γεωργιου Α εχεις προσβαση σε ολο το Εμπορικο Κεντρο της Πατρας!! Υπαρχει προσβαση σε αναπηρικα αμαξιδια!! Διατιθεται σταθμος ΤΑΞΙ!! Το παρκινγκ αυτοκινητων για τους οποιους καθετους δρομους διατιυεται ειναι για μια ωρα και αυτο με καρτα των 0.30 λεπτων που προμηθευεσαι και απο...
