Tucked away in the bustling heart of Piraeus, you'll find the charming Yperokianion Ouzeri, a small but renowned fish meze tavern that embodies the quintessential Greek seaside dining experience. Despite its popularity and the crowd it draws, this delightful tavern manages to uphold the highest standards of quality and service. Rooted in the traditions of Kimolos Island, where the owners hail from, Yperokianion brings the authenticity of island cuisine to the mainland with its wide range of traditional recipes and locally sourced ingredients.
The ambiance at Yperokianion is as appetizing as its menu. With only a few tables indoors and the majority nestled outside, the setting invites you to soak up the easy-going Piraeus charm while enjoying an array of delectable dishes. The menu, vast and varied, specializes in fresh fish and seafood. Every fried recipe is prepared with a light touch, ensuring that the natural flavors shine through. The food is, in a word, irresistible.
One can't discuss Yperokianion without mentioning the swift and efficient service. The attentive staff, always with a smile, ensure that your dishes arrive promptly - sometimes even quicker than they should arrive! This doesn't disturb the overall relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, but rather adds to the tavern's unique charm. It's a place that attracts a diverse crowd, from locals to tourists and even the occasional feline diner, drawn by the tantalizing aroma of fresh seafood.
When it comes to fresh fish and seafood, delightful recipes, exemplary service, and fair prices, Yperokianion Ouzeri stands out as an unmatched choice. If you find yourself in Piraeus, make sure to stop by. This lively tavern doesn't just serve food, it offers an unforgettable dining experience steeped in...
Read moreWhat an address. This restaurant is one of the best Athens can offer in terms of seafood. Located a few blocks off Piraeus port, this hidden gem (that has been getting more popular through the past year) starts by specifying with full transparency on the menu what is fresh and what is frozen. Honestly both are good but let me guide you through the best order.
First, you should trust the staff! We were recommended the best plates by Ilias, and like everywhere in Greece, he didn’t hesitate to tell us when it was too much. We started with a very tasty bouillabaisse soup. It’s just the soup (no seafood inside) but had an amazing taste and was superb for a cold winter night. Then, the plates started rolling one after the other. Marinated seabass was a must have, the mussels were better than anywhere else, the fried squid in pepper sauce are ABSOLUTELY a not miss, anchovies were very nice and the fried zucchini were an very good pairing side to all of this. The only OK dish was the dolma (stuffed vine leaves). We finished by the delicious lobster pasta, the shrimp pasta looked also extremely tasty. But the quality, taste and service are un matched.
The great thing is that you can feel that they are busy, but this doesn’t prevent them from cooking the best food I have had in Athens, and give you the best service. Ilias was our great friend on that night. Thanks again and definitely an address to return...
Read moreI have visited the place 2 - 3 times in the past and I was well satisfied but this time I would not say the same. I will start with the positive staff first (fries-kalamari-fava)were tasty but fried fishkoutsomoura a dissapontment not worth the 12 euros, very small size fish and overdone in result the fish was dry and you had nothing to eat..The Greek salad was poor. The shrimp pasta was forgotten, we had to remind them about it and when it finally came it was a very small portion which was not justifying the price of 17 euros!!!!
For 2 people we paid 80 euros including a very generous tip and the treat for that was a lousy halva corner piece(greek traditional sweet) which doesn't cost to the restaurant a cent.
We won't come back cause we felt like we were not appreciated at all.Next time we will go elsewhere to spend our money since there they do not appreciate clients and probably 80 euros were not enough for a descent desert treat or something from...
