We made reservations the day before, for dinner on Saturday 06.08 @ 21. When we arrived, and after having to struggle to get someone's attention, I was told "no no no sir, no such name, we don't make reservations", then another waiter added "only two per day😄😄", but don't worry... We will fix u a table". Obviously that meant having to wait. Now with a 4yold and a newborn that is not so easy, but I was prepared to let it slide, in order not to ruin the mood. Then as the first waiter was going back in, he turned back and said to me "Nonetheless ,sir, your look is not really cool". That topped it off, I said no problem, goodbye. It is unimaginable in 2022 to have to cope with this kind of behavior. I really love the area of SW Peloponnese, and we visit every year, this was my first experience with Nikos tavern and obviously the last. Edit: the impolite waiter messaged me PERSONALLY !!!!! on FB the next day, telling me he does not serve stressed out people like me and that I should chill out as I am on vacation. While I appreciate the concern and the advice, I wonder if this is also the owner's take on the incident. I mean, cancelling reservations, telling people to change their look, and then messaging them personally (!!!!!) On FB to tell them to chill? I visit the area every year. This has been the worst experience ever, if not borderline harassment. Dear owner I don't know u and u don't know me. Maybe your food is great, maybe it isn't. I was never given the chance to find out. However, your staff should not contact dissatisfied customers to pass judgement on their lifestyle or stress levels, that is not their job. In fact it is...
Read moreTruly exceptional Greek food at it's best
Great friendly service, very reasonable prices and food to savour
We stopped because it looked interesing, is far enough away from the bustle of the seafront (and it's prices) and sittng outside on a quiet side street with a gentle breeze was very welcome on a very hot day
What a happy accident it was that we stopped
We chose simple Greek food - an immense Greek Salad to share and lamb chops from the grill
The salad was a as fresh as any on this trip so far and the FOUR lamb chops each together with delicious fries and vegetable made for a very filling meal at a great price
That is only part of the story though as the quality of the chops and their cooking made them amongst the nicest lamb I have tasted anywhere in the world
Methoni is a 45 minute drive from where I am staying but I am sorely tempted to make an excuse to rive down there just to tray some more of the food at this delightful...
Read moreHaving visited Methoni regularly over the last 25 years, sampling all the tavernas in this great little fishing port in the southwest corner of the Peloponnese, we can say with confidence that Nicos is still our favourite and simply the best. Truly Greek, open all year, with a wide-ranging menu, great service and daily specials to be inspected in the kitchen. The saganaki was lightly fried to perfection and the welcome extra touches included tasty taramasalata with fresh bread before the meal arrived and delicious little sweet pastries when we thought that all was done. We have left Methoni now with memories of good food and a...
