Staras Comfort Food — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

This place is amazing! We happened on it by chance tonight whilst exploring and I’m so glad we did. The food was fantastic, everything we ordered was delicious, authentically Greek and cooked perfectly. It’s a laid back atmosphere and the service isn’t rushed, the ambience of the place is romantic with interesting nooks and crannies which lead to an amphitheatre at the back. The portions are humongous and well worth every penny. The village itself is worth a walk around, Cretan street art, old ruined buildings interspersed with newer houses, quirky little prayer boxes/shrines at the side of the road and beautiful churches. During our stay in Crete we ate at staras 3 times. We are happy to have found this restaurant by accident. Here we could be sure that it tastes good and we are always welcome. Kudos to the patient service and of course to the kitchen. There is only one tiny minus point, because when we were at the bar and ordered 3 cocktails, they were all prepared in one shaker. Apparently the bar lady misjudged it and filled all three glasses only not even halfway and then simply filled up the rest with crushed ice. Not really acceptable for 8 euros. After having a wonderful meal last year , we decided to go again, only to be let down with a few things. I ate my main meal alone, as my partners was taken back, to be replaced. Yes we were offered an extra wine as a jesters of sorry , but we don’t drink volumes, so they gave us a free desert, very nice. Then asked for the bill to pay and had to wait for nearly 53 min so eventually I walked up to pay at the computer.
