Taverna Galera — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

This taverna was one of the highlights of our trip to Crete. The setting alone makes it unforgettable, right on the water with breathtaking views of the ocean. At sunset the sky was beautiful, and later in the evening the water was lit up, giving the whole place a magical atmosphere. Even on a warm night there was a cool breeze coming in, making it so comfortable to sit and enjoy dinner outdoors.

The food was outstanding. The menu had plenty of options, from fresh fish to grilled meats, and everything we tried was excellent. The appetizers were flavorful and perfectly prepared, and the main courses left us more than satisfied. They even offered complimentary drinks, which was a nice touch. The dessert, though, deserves its own mention: their profiterole was unlike anything I’ve had before, rich, balanced, and truly extraordinary. I’d say it’s worth visiting this restaurant just to try that dessert if you have a sweet tooth.

The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming. It had the perfect balance of energy, background music, and conversation so you could still enjoy talking at your table. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive, and the entire place was spotless. It’s clear they put care into every detail. The location is also very convenient, with taxis nearby if you need them after dinner.

All in all, this is a must-visit spot in Crete. Between the stunning views, fantastic food, friendly service, and vibrant yet comfortable atmosphere, it was one of the best dining experiences we had on the island....

Amazing place by the sea. One of the best places to eat not only in Rethymno but all over Crete . Highly recommended.

We got a table right next to the sea. The view is astonishing. Especially during the afternoon. You can see the old fortress of Rethymno (Fortezza) in the back. The tables on the cliff are just for two people but I believe that the view from the upper deck of the restaurant is also very beautiful. You can hear and enjoy the silence of the sea.

Very kind personnel willing to assist. They are discrete and they are ready to provide you everything in advance before even asking. Ask them for they suggestions

All portions are extra large if not gigantic. Galera spaghetti ( shrimps, mussels, octopus, calamari, squid 🐙🦑, ) is a must. Of course this dish is for two or three people. You must also try the fried tiny shrimps which afe extra delicious 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋. Generally all fish plates are extra fresh.

There is a parking place in the restaurant premises and a very helpful employee willing to assist you with the parking process

In general, the atmosphere of the whole place is fantastic!!!!
