We stumbled across this place after visiting the Toy Museum. We had actually just received some sad news from back home and needed somewhere to stop, eat and recharge for a while. From the second we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. They were so polite, friendly, chatty and kind. The food is absolutely out of this world and we all agree, the best meal that we had during our holiday. The lady, who I believe was the chef, was absolutely adorable she she honestly makes the best moussaka that I have ever tasted. She surprised us with a free home made pudding after our meal and it was just delicious. The whole experience was fantastic. My daughter (little fussy drawers) asked for chicken nuggets and they were home made and extremely tasty. Since we have gotten home, we have spoken about this place a few times as we have been craving everything that we ate. If you are in the area please give this family run restaurant a try and support their business. You will not be disappointed. Not only did they give us the most delicious of meals, their kindness and positivity left a lasting impact on us and if we are lucky enough to return to Rhodes in the future, we will be heading straight...
Read moreDinner was at the famous Taverna Artemida to try their authentic Pitaroudia. This is a traditional Greek dish originating from Rhodes. These fritters are made with a combination of chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, mint, cumin, and seasonings. The dried chickpeas are soaked, boiled, then coarsely ground and mixed with onions, grated tomatoes, mint, salt, pepper, and cumin.
ARTEMIDA is a family-owned and run tavern that has been opened since 1992. They faithfully follow the tradition of solid Greek cuisine, based on prime quality, fresh, locally produced raw materials and meats originating from the villages in the area, using olive oil produced by the tavern owners. Bread served on the premises is also locally kneaded and baked in a traditional wood-burning oven.
The road to the restaurant is part of the experience that we loved!
They sat us by their wood burning fire place and immediately treated us like family. I tried their vegetarian Moussaka which consisted of layers of roasted eggplant, potatoes, and zucchini.
After we finished our food, they brought us a FREE dessert, and rose water hot towels to...

Giorgos, the owner, made us feel like part of the family, sharing stories about the restaurant and their passion for what they do. Also, the young waitress was very friendly and attentive.
The food itself is the real star of the show. It's proper, traditional cooking, prepared with love by Giorgos's wife and mother-in-law. Every dish was delicious, with generous portions and incredible flavor. You can just tell everything is made with care, and the value for money is outstanding.
The restaurant's location is also a huge plus. It’s tucked away in the middle of the island but offers a beautiful, peaceful view and a quiet atmosphere. It was easy to drive to, and there's a big parking area, so no stress there. And to top it all off, we were treated to a wonderful, complimentary dessert at the end of both of our visits!
We've already been twice and can't recommend it enough. We can't...
