For my family, this place has become the most favorite Greek restaurant on the island. We came here seven years ago for the first time, and since then we like to return to this place every time we come to Rhodes. We usually stay in a resort on the seaside in the southen part of the island, which is quite far away. The opportunity to have more than just one meal at Smaragd during the vacations appeared very attractive to us, and this year we have decided to spend a couple of nights in Psinthos before moving to the south. We have tried almost all dishes at Smaragd, and everything was tasty. There are photos of the dishes in the menu, which makes the choice easier. Maybe, stifado deserves special attention. I would never recognise by taste that it is cooked from a goat! As we sat on the restaurant terrace, we were sirprised that it was not hot there even on a hot summer day. Obviously, the shadow from a wide dense roof and the wind from the mountains do their job well. Georgios, the owner is very hospitable and friendly. He speaks German fluently (he used to work in Germany in a factory before he moved back to his homeland to run a family restaurant), and manages basic English too. I can highly recommend this place to everybody who happen to be in this part...
Read moreAs we were driving around we came across Psinthos, a very cozy village in central Rhodes. There we saw Georgios in front of his restaurant called ‘Smaragd’ and a big sign ‘Vlaanderen Vakantieland’ was here. As I was with a party from Belgium that knows the television show very well, they were excited to stay there for dinner. The service was excellent, Georgios had very interesting tales of his experience with the show and his restaurant. The food was simply amazing! From all the small side dishes called ‘mezedakia’ to the main dishes. All prepared with the warmth of a grandmother (in this case his wife) preparing dinner for her family. A homey feeling with quality food and ridiculous low prices, our stay at the Smaragd was perfect. We got to taste her dishes but also some grilled dishes from his chef. The meat was so juicy and to die for!
Smaragd will be a sure stop every time we’ll be in Rhodes.

Read moreWe had a really great late lunch here, having the greek salad, aubergine salad and gyros. Great portions and value for money. Menu is limited but the food was great. The gyros especially stood out with nice grilled meat (never had gyros meat that felt like authentic real meat rather than the highly processed meat like other restaurants) and homemade chips that stood out. We got a complimentary mosaico dessert as well! Great hospitality! Would recommend for sure as a stop before or after...
