Καραβελαδικα (Karaveladika) – A Hidden Oasis of Rhodian Tradition & Modernity
Tucked within the labyrinthine, candy-colored streets of Koskinou—a village steeped in Rhodian charm—Καραβελαδικα (Karaveladika) is a revelation. Housed in a lovingly restored historic building, this taverna masterfully bridges the gap between rustic authenticity and contemporary flair, offering a dining experience that feels both timeless and refreshingly inventive.
Atmosphere: A Secret Garden of Senses Finding Karaveladika feels like uncovering a well-kept local secret. The renovated stone-and-wood structure blends seamlessly into Koskinou’s pastel-hued alleyways, its exterior whispering tradition while the interior surprises with minimalist elegance. Exposed beams, soft lighting, and subtle nods to the building’s heritage (think vintage tools or faded family photos) create a warm, intimate vibe. The outdoor seating, shaded by vines or olive trees, adds a dreamy, almost secret-garden quality to the space.
Culinary Experience: Where Tradition Meets Imagination The menu here is a love letter to Rhodian cuisine, reimagined with creativity and respect for quality. Standout dishes from your visit include: 30-Foulla (Rose) Salad: A showstopper. Edible rose petals mingle with peppery greens, tangy local cheese, and a citrus-kissed dressing—a dish as poetic as it is flavorful. Baked Bougiourdi: A fiery, indulgent twist on the classic. Feta and spicy peppers bubble under a golden crust, served with crusty bread for scooping up every last morsel. Pork & Chicken Kontosouvli: Juicy, charcoal-kissed skewers that showcase the magic of Rhodian grilling. The meat, marinated in local herbs and olive oil, is smoky, tender, and utterly satisfying.
The house wine, often overlooked in tavernas, is a revelation here—bright, balanced, and bursting with terroir. Whether you opt for the crisp white or a velvety red, it’s a perfect partner to the bold flavors on your plate.
Service: Warmth Without Pretense Staff here treat you like an old friend, offering recommendations with genuine enthusiasm but never hovering. The vibe is unfussy yet attentive, letting the food and setting take center.
The Verdict Karaveladika is a must-visit for anyone craving authenticity without compromise. It’s a place where rose petals grace your salad, where every bite of kontosouvli tastes like a summer feast, and where the wine flows as freely as the laughter of locals. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a Rhodian regular, this taverna captures the soul of the island—one reinvented classic at a time.

Read moreWish 4.5 was an option. Will be back to try some different food. Must try if you are in the area. Very reasonably priced
Service was fantastic they took their time to explain to us in English the menu and when asked for recommendations they took their time talking through different options. Feels very much family orientated it’s not rushed so if you like to dine and dash maybe not for you but it’s a fantastic spot to sit and enjoy the setting (quaint side street family party) this is how it feels.
The meze we were recommended was all lovely it’s a lot of food to eat though and feel bad wasting some of it. I ordered the lamb ribs as a main and they were just a bit overdone for me my partner had the chicken souvlaki and it was a little dry but not massively everything was extremely tasty. Desert was also amazing
I would come back and try something different I feel like our choices let us down a little, going off the meze recommendations and the other food we ate everything else was fantastic
But again staff were amazing the...
Read moreWell deserved 5 stars from all guests. By far the best meal we had in Rhodes. We love good food and appreciate quality. We got both, but i will start from the service that was outstanding. Alex was very knowledgeable on dishes and ingredients to recommend based on what we say we like but also knew when to say "it will be too much food.." not often you hear that, and he was right. The building and seating out side on the balcony, with the afternoon wind was just perfect. Perfect bread for starters with an amazing garlic butter and wonderful olive. For first dish we ordered the most wonderful wine leafs! and eggplant dish.Wow. it was served hot, from the fire with chopped onions, tomatoes and feta. A dream dish. For main i had the lamb chops. Wow again! It was outstanding with the seasoning and perfectly made. The 2nd main was , i forgot the name, but you can see in pictures . It was mix of beef and lamb, soft and very tasty. The chocolate bites were excellent. The cost for such wonderful dinner for 2 was ~55 EUR. Excellent...
