The atmosphere and the service are great. Especially the view and the nice lady serving us. The food however really is not, I am really disappointed that I can’t agree with the countless other good reviews.
We ordered very simple dishes which were not great by any Greek standard.
The white wine tasted like vinegar, and came in a cheap thick stem glass.
the saganaki was okay, however drenched in oil
the Greek salad can’t be even called a Greek salad, no seasoning, Greek herbs etc , and cherry tomato’s instead of the usual flavourful Greek tomatoes.
the lamp chops where not great at all, I can’t recommend them. They were extremely tough, to an extend where I had to rip the meat of the bones using my hands and teeth as the knife could not cut it. They were frozen too. The bread was dry, and the tzatziki not up to par.
overall the side of fries were the best part our meal.
If you want to go out for drinks, and enjoy a nice view. This restaurant might be something for you, otherwise I just can’t recommend it
(This has been added on as a response to the owners.
bashing us for sharing a singular wine that has obviously corked is just outright disgusting behaviour. My partner drank a singular wine, which we did not share as I was the designated driver. And we did not order another one because it tasted like vinegar.
we have been to countless Greek restaurants, I grew up all over Greece, turkey and originate from the Lebanese cuisine. We took our sail boat and have been to numerous Greek islands !
after asking the nice server about the Greek salad, she agreed with us and also apologised. This also goes for the rest of the meal.
I have pictures of the meat being tough (btw the server acknowledged that they were frozen too) and me not being able to cut them using the supplied knife, the same goes for the thick stemmed wine glasses.
using age as a scape goat is ridiculous behaviour for any restaurants with standards.
Last but not least we were so shocked with the food that this compelled us to write a review, something we don’t usually do. Because of this absolutely rude response from the owner we are changing our review from 2 to 1 star.
Nevermind their additional respond does not deserve any stars. Coming to the conclusion that due to my age I can’t even comprehend what good food is, is not only insulting but also disrespectful behaviour of an unprofessional Restaurateur. The server definitely apologised (which by itself is a good thing) and I did not lie in any shape or form. Yes you can show that meat is tough on a picture, I mean what do you expect from a frozen extremely thin piece of meat that has been cooked completely dry.
Yes I know what a good wine tastes like, and even if not, I can definitely tell you if a wine tastes like vinegar.
Yes I have been to allot of Greek islands, that’s just what we like to do in the summer.
By the other good reviews I have given to other restaurants (viewable on my account) I have no reason to lie about this.
I wish everyone reading this a lovely holiday, and hopefully you will think twice about coming to this restaurant purely based on...
Read moreWe arrived there just before 9, it took them 20 minutes and two notices to give us the menu and other 10 minutes to take our order (after another notice). The menu was okay, the food was tasty and arrived at 9.49 (we had ordered at 9.13).
The place was not full but still the service was terribly slow. We had to always be on our guard to call over the waiters and they still forgot to come although they saw us...It was really frustrating. There was also a family of 5, making TOO much noise, the lady was laughing out loud and sounded like a dying pig so they ruined the atmosphere for us.
Other than that, the view of Afantou was nice, the cafe/bar was romantic and nicely decorated with nice music and delicious dishes. We ordered a coke, a small bottle of water, chicken nuggets, cheeseballs and a spaghetti napolitana and payed 20 euros which is a reasonable price.
PS. The owner has replied that they were full that evening, which they were not. We are reasonable customers and before we pass judgement we try to take into account all factors that contribute to a not so perfect customer service, that's why we looked around to see if the place was full which would excuse the slow service but it was not. Yes, there was a football match but there was a group of friends sitting in an isolated space that looked like it was somewhere inside and there were a couple of tables outside that space, on...
Read moreRecommended by others. We were not disappointed. Lovely food and cocktails. Reasonable prices. If your Greek is not up to scratch or you don 't know what ingredients are in a dish . The waitress produced a tablet that you could scroll through to make your selection. Nice touch. It's a family run business, who have good customer care skills. Good music and nothing is too much trouble. With a big television should the football be on. We recommended this restaurant to others, who joined us on our last night. Our companion who was a dairy farmer, ordered the steak and found it superb! High praise indeed. Thank you Nick the owner, who took time to chat. oh and the view is lovely too. Hence the name...
