We stayed a week in Sifnos and went to a number of restaurants around the island. This and Omega 3 were our absolute favorites. Both very different but in the classic taverna category, Araxovoli, is leaps and bounds above the other places nearby.
This is a family run business with not only a great chef but a fisherman that goes out to get the catch of the day every morning. If they don’t have it in their case, they weren’t able to catch it that morning! Some of the other restaurants had not fresh looking fish and seafood day after day. At Araxovoli, they won’t put something out that hasn’t been caught that day. We really wanted some lobster pasta but found that for two days straight they said they didn’t catch any that morning. We were lucky that on our last night they had caught a couple - it was the absolute best lobster pasta we ever had. The lobster was cooked to perfection and it came with linguine in a light and simple but flavorful tomato sauce. I still dream about this pasta. Absolutely get it if they have it.
If they have fresh squid, I would highly recommend getting it. If you generally have had frozen/defrosted squid in your life, fresh fried squid is fantastic. Their batter is so light and the squid was so tender. We were lucky that our first meal in Sifnos was on a Sunday. On Sundays, there is Revithada (chickpea soup). It’s a simple soup (chickpea, lemon, onion) that is cooked low and slow in a wood-fired oven. The version here was excellent, they also only served it on Sundays (as is the tradition). Many of the other places in town served it every day. I think for such a time intensive soup, there’s no way most other places in town were making it everyday and it showed when we tried it at other places. Araxovoli’s was our first but also best one we had - the depth of flavor of the simple ingredients was fantastic. Even their Greek salad was better than other places - the mizithra cheese, the veggies, the olive oil - all were higher quality than some others we had on the island.
If you’re staying near the port, do not miss eating here - everything is...
Read moreFood quality was good, but portions was much smaller and more expensive compared to another restaurants around. Squids served exactly 15 minutes after we finished our meal, we refused to eat them. Help waiter apologised for long waiting time, but the main waiter/owner got back to our table blaming us for being unfai, screaming that this is the way he serves the food. He was really rude and his attitude was terrible, he was walking around the restaurant looking at us in like aggressive way. I dont recommend this restaurant not because of the food quality, prices or squids being late. The reason of my complaint is the owner/waiter attitude who from the first moment i entered the restaurant wasn't friendly at all. Better go to tavern called MEROPI just next door and have a better meal served by professional waiters. Drogo/male porcje/bezczelny właściciel/jedzenie ok/po prawej stronie jest inna tawerna '' Meropi'' o wiele tansza, jedzenie duzo smaczniejsze i...

A remarkable experience.
From our (albeit limited) experience, this place is best avoided. Especially when compared with the superb culinary experiences elsewhere on the island, we had a terrible meal (the final meal of our excellent holiday). And the customer care to genuinely aggrieved customers left a lot...
