Villa Petrino - Taverna KOSTAS - Xerokampos — Restaurant in Municipality of Sitia

For the past 2 weeks, we delighted our demanding palates with the variety of amazing and authentic traditional recipes cooked with care and dedication by Kostas family. We tasted everything: from meat (lamb chops - Kostas specialty - hard to beat!, pork chops, pancetta, steak, rabbit with rosemary - so devine!, chicken souvlaki, rooster in wine sauce) to seafood (grilled/fried kalamari, prawns, fish, snails - a real treat!) and appetizers (fried zucchini & aubergines with tzatziki dip, local traditional cheese, spicy cheese salad, tamara egg fish salad, dakos, fava peas). Not to forget the vegetarian options such as oven baked feta cheese, baked aubergines with feta, artichokes in lemon sauce which were a real delight! All dishes were very delicious made with fresh and genuine ingredients and flavoured with herbs and spicies. The photos speak for themselves! After each meal, we were treated with raki, homemade traditional cakes and desserts (carrot marmelade was heavenly) and fruit. Such a nice taverna, with kind and lovely people, who know how to welcome and pleased their guests. Cretan hospitality...

I am not use to write neither good or bad reviews on the places where I go but in this in case I really need to tell you TO AVOID THIS PLACE. First service was very bad, starters and main dishes arrived at the same time. How could you eat 2 hot plates in the same time ? Then the quality of food is so bad. We’ve spent two weeks on Creta eating days and nights at restaurants (of all prices) and this was our worst experience. Fried squids came with an overused oil (smelly), with too much breadscrumbs. Octopus was rubbery as said in other comments. Fish breams could be considered as dry fish and lacked seasoning. Vegetables were tasteless and seemed boiled. And what about deserts... a frozen cake and tasteless fruits. How is it manageable under this beautiful weather ? To finish with, the prices could be considered as expensive regarding the quality of service and food. I tried to engaged discussion about what I just wrote here but it seems that client satisfaction is not an issue as no one...

Rooms "Villa Petrino" is a family rent rooms business situated in Xerocambos, very close to the beach, with fantastic view. The rooms are of excellent condition, and very very clean!. what is also very important is that although Xerocambos is very hot at summertime, the rooms remain cool thanks to the very good insulation system they have. I am sure that anyone who visits this place will visit it again!, The reason is, not only what I mentioned above but also the so much friendly atmosphere one experiences there, from the family owners.
