TAVERN DROSOPIGI - VELONIS PANAGIOTIS — Restaurant in Municipality of Sparta

We visited mid week towards the end of September, my companion keen to have fresh trout and reviews for the food, service and restaurant setting were generally positive. We arrived shortly after opening (7.30). We were the first customers. A man stood at the doorway. My companion approached (he speaks a little Greek) but initially not clear if this man in the doorway a visitor or part of the establishment as he was stony-faced, no smile in response to our smiles, no welcome, in fact his countenance suggested we were an annoyance to have appeared there at all. It transpired he was a member of staff - considering his age he may have been the owner. My companion indicated he was interested in having a trout for his dinner. The trout, to be chosen by the diner, were swimming in a small, overcrowded tank in the musty-smelling indoor part of the restaurant. They were clearly stressed. I was, for several years, a fisherman of trout and salmon and these were poor specimens of farmed fish - some had tails and fins so nibbled and injured it was clear they had been in confined spaces for some time and were exhibiting stressed behaviour. I wouldn't contribute to such a practice by ordering a trout but my companion unaware, went ahead. I ordered another dish and we ordered a drink each. Our waiter was welcoming, polite and helpful. After nearly 45 minutes our drinks arrived (there were 4 other customers as far as we could see). Then 5 mins later the filetted, cooked trout arrived. My dish was to be a few more mins I was informed. After another 5 -7 or so mins my dish arrived. It was delicious. The trout had been served less than hot but the whole dish was enjoyed nonetheless. The price was fair, the waiter polite and obliging. However, the ?owner was, disappointingly, bordering upon rude, certainly by most people's standards I'd suggest. We'd not return nor recommend this place, despite the setting and acceptable food. (House white wine was not so good, compared to multiple other restaurants across the Peloponnese). Επισκεφτήκαμε την ταβέρνα την 28η. Το προσωπικό πάρα πολύ ευγενικό και εξυπηρετικό. Όμως! Το φαγητό ήταν πολύ μέτριο και κάποια πιάτα όταν ήρθαν ήταν κρύα (πχ το λουκάνικο ήταν παγωμένο και η τυροκαυτερή είχε ξινίσει) Επίσης, ενώ είχαμε παραγγείλει τα πιάτα μας και είχαμε τελειώσει και με τα ορεκτικά μας ενημέρωσαν ότι από τα κυρίως πιάτα κάποια είχαν τελειώσει. Αυτό ήταν τουλάχιστον 45 λεπτά μετά την παραγγελία μας. Επίσης ενώ τρώγαμε και άδειαζαν τα τραπέζια σχεδόν όλα είχαν μείνει παρατημένα και αμάζευτα με τα αποφάγια των πελατών, κάτι που προφανώς μπορεί να γίνει κάπως αντιαισθητικό. Δυστυχώς καθώς τρώγαμε έγινε και ένας καυγάς μέσα στη κουζίνα που ενώ καταλαβαίνω ότι είναι λογικό με την πίεση της ημέρας να προκληθεί, σίγουρα δεν ήταν όμως κόσμιο να γίνεται μπροστά στον πελάτη. Οι τουαλέτες ήταν πάρα πολύ βρώμικες και χρήζουν κάποια ανακαίνιση. Ξανά, το καταλαβαίνω ότι ίσως να έπηξε το μαγαζί με τον απρόσμενο κόσμο της εορτής, αλλά ήταν επιεικώς απαράδεκτο. Επίσης, χωρίς να είμαι σίγουρη, έχω την εντύπωση ότι χρεωθήκαμε παραπάνω, αλλά υγεία. Η τοποθεσία είναι πραγματικά πανέμορφη, αλλά λόγω των παραπάνω δεν θεωρώ ότι αξίζει να το...

Θα είμαι αναλυτικός γιατί ήταν η χειρότερη εμπειρία που είχα τόσα χρόνια στη Σπάρτη. Καθημερινή βράδυ ΜΟΝΟΙ μας στο χώρο και παραγγείλαμε μια σαλάτα κ μια πίτσα. Στα 15' έρχεται η σαλάτα με κάποια από τα υλικά της να λείπουν και όταν ενημερώσαμε, ο σερβιτόρος με χαμόγελο ειρωνικό μετά από 10' λεπτά μας έφερε τα υλικά που έλειπαν σε μικρό πιάτο να τα προσθέσουμε μόνοι μας μέσα, αντί να μας φέρει άλλη σαλάτα. Μετά από συνολικά 45' ήρθε και η πίτσα όπου έκανε 9€ και ήταν μέγεθος σχεδόν ατομικής. Το ζυμάρι βρωμαγε σόδα μαγειρική και είχε αρπάξει, καθώς όμως με μοναδικό ταλέντο τα λαχανικά ήταν ωμά και τα μανιτάρια κονσέρβα. Φάγαμε μόνο ένα κομμάτι και ζητήσαμε αμέσως λογαριασμό και πάλι ο σερβιτόρος ατάραχος με το χαμόγελο στο στόμα δεν έκανε καν το κόπο να μας ρωτήσει γιατί δεν φάγαμε, γιατί φεύγουμε, γιατί κάτι ρε αδερφέ να σώσει την κατάσταση. Λογικό που το δίπλα ακριβώς μαγαζί ήταν γεμάτο...
