A Surprising Delight.
Either driving in, or an 8 euro taxi from the bus station which is about 10 minutes from Sparta center to the hotel front door, we weren't sure if we were at the hotel or not. Thinking back, looking at the classic greek door on a stone wall being the hotel entrance, I think the mystique of that adds true to the ancient surroundings, and I'm glad it is the way it is! Walking through the door being wrapped in delightful jasmine like smells of orange blossom and rose arouma that waft the soul full of delight, the amazingly helpful staff gave us a choice of rooms and all the info we needed on a hand written note. The rooms were not your yacht club extraordinaire style but an authentic Greek brown tiled, cabin home away from home feeling place, with extremely comfortable beds and top quality pillows that one can feel a perfect form and a deep sleep coming on while breathing in the clean mountain air.
We were told upon entry we could eat any orange we could reach from the trees. Be prepared to eat the best orange you've ever tasted in your life and drink the best orange juice at breakfast you've had, made from those same oranges. The breakfast was a treat with home style buffet and if you like a classic honey dipper full of honey, drizzled over great walnuts, fruit and Greek yogurt, then this will definitely prepare you for the day! Being there at the end of April is a perfect time for the oranges and hiking for many reasons. I could go on forever, but would not want to ruin any surprises of the walk up to the fortress and anciant Sparta hike that is a must! It cost 12 Euros per entry that will easily fill up a day full of breathtaking adventure. So if you're into hiking, fresh air, a great soul and body replenishing get away, then definitely book a room here at the end of April for a few nights!...

We loved every moment.||||Such a lot of effort has gone into the design of this boutique hotel, so the decor and furnishings in our room were absolutely beautiful. We were in a garden room, and when we opened our shutters, we found that we had a view not only of the orange grove outside, but also of the hilltop castle! All the windows were fitted with fly screens, so we could choose between AC or natural ventilation. There was tons of room for our cases and all our stuff.||||The bathroom was very spacious and stylish, with a great shower and plenty of room for your bits and pieces.||||Breakfast was in a lovely courtyard, underneath the grapevine, and we could choose from an extensive buffet, with many of the choices home-made, e.g. jams, omelettes, teas etc. Tea and coffee were served to your table. It was a meal that you wanted to linger over!||||The staff were so friendly and helpful, even greeting us by our names, which was a very nice touch.||||We were only a 2 minute walk from the main square in Mystras, where there is a selection of tavernas under a huge, old tree, although we opted to drive about 15 mins up to the nearby village of Pikoulianika, where there were some excellent restaurants with great views of the ruins and plain of Sparti.||||I would certainly stay here again if I were...
