Read moreWhile staying in a villa that purported to be in Stoupa but in reality is closer to Agios Nikolaos, we were delighted to find Agios Nikolaos to be as unspoiled and charming a spot as Stoupa is spoiled by over-tourism. We wandered along the town pulled by the sound of church bells and the sonorous melancholy voice of the priest presiding over a small evening service. Heading back, we saw Bezoubios/Vesouvios at the far end of the harbor. Welcomed by the lovely Dora, we sat on the edge of the water for a glass of wine as the sun was setting. While I have been fortunate to have experienced many, many picture postcard vistas (I guess Instagrammable moments, these days), the experience at Vezouvios is like stepping onto a film set. It just doesn't seem possible that such an unsullied view and such a sweet spot exist for anyone who stumbles upon it. In fact, we were so mesmerized by the water and the hills beyond, and the lights beginning to twinkle on, we stayed for dinner--a beautiful fish soup, mine with mussels, my husband's with shrimp. The design of the restaurant's terrace makes one feel as if you're on a yacht, and if you like, you can climb down a ladder into the sea and come back up for a meal and even enjoy a few moments on a sunbed during the day (just 2 or 3 beds if I recall correctly. It's a tiny place but uncrowded.) So perfect was our experience that we hoped to return again, but for many reasons our plans changed. That said, we hope one day to return to Vezouvios and reprise a magical evening devoid of commercial glitz. It's a very special place--the setting, the hospitality, and the cuisine. It will remain a highlight of all...

Sadly our experience was far from the great restaurant that was talked about. We ate early lunchtime and there were only 3 other tables occupied. We ordered some pork off the grill and were told this wasn't ready yet so to order something else. We therefore both ordered chicken fillet from the grill. It wasn't advertised as having any accompanying veg but we presumed at the price it would have. We also ordered a starter of fried feta with honey, and a salad of white fish roe and squid ink. When the starters arrived the cheese was lovely however the salad wasn't a salad but just grey roe with no salad that could be seen. When the mains arrived, which took ages, it was just a butterflied chicken breast grilled with some limp chips. My wife cut into hers and it was raw in the centre.
We asked the young waiter if he could send it back and explained that it was raw. He nodded and took it away. 10 minutes later he brought it back, no apology, and it was still pink inside. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for rare steak but chicken needs to be cooked!
There was no table water as we had been given free anywhere else, and when we asked for the bill it was around €10 more than any other restaurant we have eaten in here in the area. The owner was sat outside and didn't so much as smile let alone say goodbye or apologise for the appalling meal. Would not recommend going here - it's not even got the best view in...
