Accidentally found this place on the way back from a day trip.
Fantastic spot, directly at a tiny harbour. Unbelievable history of the previous owner, so cute!
Very nice and helpful staff, but a bit on the slow (disorganized) side. Even for Greek standards ;) Still, they invited me into their kitchen to see the catch of the day. Love that, when you get so closely involved in their hospitality.
Not too crowded, but still well visited.
We had fresh fish from the grill. Which they (sadly) already cut open the in the kitchen. It would have been okay, but they cut through the bones.... Therefore very, VERY tricky to share with kids. And maybe unsafe. And it cooled down too fast because of that. Before that: tasty and nicely seasoned.
My wife had BBQ lamb chops, which were rather tiny and not as tender as they could be... she wasn't very pleased.
The grilled shrimp number 2 were the highlight. Big sized and perfectly prepared shrimps with fabulous taste.
We didn't finish the honey trenched cake and brandy, which was their complimentary dessert. Simply too sweet and sticky for a hot day.
4 stars because of the scenery and history. Food and service would be just 3 stars.
Did I mention, that they put the food on the table and totally forgot about the drinks (which we ordered at the same time as food). Waiter seemed surprised as we asked for it. Oh, and there is only ONE soft drink on the menu without gas - other than water.
Would we go there again? Probably not. Nice and all, yes, but competition is tough and many more taverns to discover.
Sorry, no actual food pics this time. It was too chaotic when the dishes arrived and the kids were too...
Read moreHonestly 1 star is too much! The food was ok but not for the price. The lad who first served us and brought bread and oils seemed nice. Then onwards we were served by a horrible woman(assumed owner) who seemed to want to make us feel unwelcome. I have never experienced such unpleasant service anywhere ever. As well as the general rude attitude, our sides were bought out long before our main, so we ate the chips off the serving dish so they didn't go cold and asked if the veg should be warm as we don't have the fish yet. She took it away and it never came back. Just as we were about to put cash down for what we'd eaten and leave, the fish dishes came out so we ate them with no sides. Mine had a large serving spoon in it but nothing to spoon it onto. Not worth €18. We were really just wanting to leave by now due to the unpleasant attitude of the lady so we left cash minus the veg dish and left feeling really disgruntled and went to lidls and got some bakery snacks. I notice a review from a local guide says used to be great but been bought out in recent years. Seemed its now owned by non-greeks who delight in making you feel like they hate you for no...
Read moreThe place is a little hidden from the road that goes along the Kissamos Bay. A very nice little building on a small harbor. We took a table on the side narrow balcony, just on the water. I am the only one of the family who likes seafood and I cannot complain at all for the food. I ate the grilled octopus (very good and large portion) and grilled sea bream (fished in the afternoon and cooked very well). My wife took a pork screw and found it very good (better than the one ate yesterday in another tavern, and that was also a good one). White wine, hamburgers and fries for my daughter, water melon offered nicely from the tavern as well as Raki (greek 'schnaps') for a very good price. Friendly and young staff. If you're passing by and wondering where you can eat, that's a place I would go, without doubt. UPDATE: second time at the tavern after a trip to Balos Beach. I've seen with my eyes the local fisherman on a little boat coming back from the sea and delivering the fresh fishes to the kitchen: sea breams, sea basses and 'red snappers' (a local fish alike sea breams but with very big eyes and red skin). I could choose the one I...
