Taverna Stimadoris — Restaurant in Municipality of Kissamos

We visited Taverna Stimadoris and were thoroughly impressed! A fantastic spot for authentic Cretan cuisine and warm hospitality.

🍽️ Food Every dish was delicious and served in very generous portions — you definitely won’t leave hungry! ✅ Greek salad – fresh vegetables, creamy cheese, and fragrant herbs. ✅ Fruit and balsamic salad – a vibrant and refreshing combination of flavors. ✅ Grilled sardines – fresh, juicy, with a slight smoky taste — one of the best dishes to try! ✅ Small fried fish – crispy and lemony, a perfect appetizer with white wine. ✅ Grilled fish (sea bass/dorado) – super fresh, flavorful, and perfectly grilled. ✅ Lamb – tender, aromatic, cooked over an open flame with traditional spices, highlighting the rich taste of the meat. ✅ Pasta with eggplant and olives – juicy, well-balanced, and full of authentic Cretan flavors.

🍷 Wine We chose Vidiano 2024 from Martsakis Winery — an excellent dry white wine that pairs beautifully with fish, salads, and lighter dishes.

💡 Tips • Portions are huge — sharing plates is definitely a good idea! • Ask the staff about the freshest fish and meat of the day — everything is fresh and of excellent quality. • The selection of local wines is great — we highly recommend trying Vidiano. • Stunning views of the sea make the dining experience even more special.

The place is on the right side as you are leaving Kissamos towards the port. Has a good atmosphere in the evenings, has a large terrace, plenty of tables, with options for 2, 4 or even or 10 persons. Usually quieter weekday evenings but can get busy in the weekend evenings. The people: super friendly and authentic. The food: heavenly. Very tasty, big variety despite its position (being at the outskirts of Kissamos). Portions: big, you will be satisfied with anything you order. Try the anchovies or the spearfish medallion. Try the salads (big enough to be shared in couple).

We visited in 2023, first time in Crete and Stimadoris are a part of the nice memories we made here in Crete’s Chania region.

We miss this place and when we will visit Crete again we will definitely dine at Stimadoris.

Fantastic food and service. The portions are huge and will satisfy the greatest hunger. (Great Greek bread with olive oil and mountain oregano in the right amount. We happened to get 3 tiny slices elsewhere, for which the staff charged double, claiming that this is their policy...) Fresh fish to choose from every day and a great chef who will advise you what to choose. I have to mention the shrimp pasta which was insanely good and the freshness of the preparation and substrates was palpable in every bite. The staff speaks English. In our opinion, the best restaurant in Kissamos for a delicious dinner with a Greek atmosphere. At the end, always ice cream and a bottle of home-made Raki for digestion.
