The service didn't start well since they had us waiting, then started giving tables to people that came after us, no organization, no keeping track of the order of customers. The waitresses were nice apart from that, but I would think, not enough personnel since everything was slow even though they were trying their best.
Non vegan friendly at all, misleading menu: We ordered oven beans that I asked the waitress if it's gigantes in the oven, I also mentioned that we wanted a vegan menu and the oven beans came with feta or cheese on top even though it was not written on the menu. Thankfully they changed them to ones without feta after pointing out it was not written in the menu, but they weren't even oven beans. It was closer to a very tasteless white beans soup that didn't even have tomato sauce. It was also cold so you can't even call it soup. We also ordered bread and came with chilly flakes on top even though again, nothing like that was mentioned on the menu. We also ordered the choriatiki but I asked them if it was possible to have the cheese and egg separately since one of us is vegan and the other vegetarian, and they forgot to bring them. After asking again, they brought the feta only, not the eggs. The baked potatoes were tasteless and nothing special, just potatoes cut in two with an okay mustard sauce. They don't bring water or bread by default. The fava was good, same as mushrooms even though too salty and probably sauté in wine, which was again not mentioned in the menu, if it was the case. The environment is beautiful though, but everything else is really...
Read moreMediocre food for normal prices. Goat chops were pretty tough although they were aged. Mushroom dish was just OK, but the watermelon salad was amazing. We had to cancel our second dish as it got delayed for 20 minutes and we were already done with the rest of the dishes.
UPDATE: To reply to the owner and update the review to 1 on everything as they are being dishonest. The first main dish, the goat chops came at a normal time but the second dish “porceta” took you 30 minutes and it was still not out and that was AFTER the first main dish and everything else we ordered (watermelon salad, bread and the mushrooms) was already served. At the 20 minute mark since everything else was served, I asked you for the first time to cancel it (as we were done with the other dishes), but you said “it’s already prepared but it’s only two more minutes because they are getting the potatoes ready” which I was OK to wait. But then another 10 minutes went by and it wasn’t out, which is when I came inside and I cancelled it. That was 30 minutes exactly since the first main dish was served. You didn’t offer it for “free” so it’s kind of lame that you lie about that and it’s completely dishonest from your side. Either you confused me with someone else or you’re...
Read moreWe are first time in Greece and very much enjoy Greek food. However, Thymari has elevated Greek food on the next level where simplicity meets elegance in both taste and presentation.
In our almost six days on Thasos, we came twice to Thymari because the food is amazing, the service is great, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
We have tried several dishes and they ranged from very good to excellent. Of a special note are tzatziki with beets (seemingly small change that produced a hugely satisfying taste), pork chops with honey sauce and eggplant puree (an absolute must), fava beans mash with sun-dried tomatoes and capers (difficult to stop eating), grilled potatoes with mustard sauce (simply heavenly) and beef tong in oregano sauce (it melted in the mouth like butter!).
The restaurant is run by a young team that is very much into Greek cuisine but is not afraid to give old dishes a twist or a shake to make them exciting and very interesting gastronomically.
I wish we have stayed longer on Thasos, so we could try more on their menu. I do think this place will be a highlight of our trip to Greece from the food point of view.
It is a place not to be missed...
