This was by far the biggest disappointment of our Zakynthos trip.
I now think I understand their business model: they target a certain type of tourist — the “posh-but-not-quite” crowd. People who don’t want to sit in a regular taverna with “poor” locals and plastic chairs, but who aren’t ready (or willing) to pay for actual fine dining. So, they build a nice garden, sprinkle in fancy menu words like reduction and caramelized, and hope you won’t notice the food is supermarket-level at best.
Asparagus Soup – Just fine; not great, not terrible. A safe, forgettable start.
Tzatziki – Tasted like something from the supermarket fridge aisle. Two soggy olives on top, plus a flatbread I didn’t ask for that was full of additives and characterless.
Seafood Marinara – I avoided pasta to skip the Italian twist and chose vegetables. What I got: mostly vongole shells, some frozen, pre-boiled, then overcooked shrimp, and a wine “wannabe” sauce with a strange artificial aftertaste. The brunoise vegetables included undercooked carrot (no sweetness released).
Nearby: grilled vegetables — unevenly chopped, zucchini and carrot just “ok,” beetroot overcooked into mush, all finished with a splash of balsamic dressing straight from a bulk bottle.
Pork with Caramelized Onions and Balsamic Reduction – Overcooked pork loin so dry I felt sorry for the animal, four times more onions than needed, and half a liter of balsamic reduction drowning everything. A lonely jacket potato sat by, unable to help.
Prices – Slightly higher than other taverns, with none of the authenticity or care.
Why write all this? Because this place is a culinary impostor, and it’s unfair to the many hard-working, family-run tavernas — some just down the road — that actually give you...
Read moreWe visited peppermint during our stay in Argassi. Well the restaurant has a nice decoration but the problem is that when there are lots of costumers the stuff is unable to work properly. When we arrived the person in charge asked us politely to wait for 5-10 minutes in order to prepare our table.. That was ok for us. When we sat at our table we noticed that the service was slow considering that many tables had been served only with water/drinks and bread. We were waiting about 30 minutes for the waitor. We told two waitors twice that we were ready to order in a polite way, but both of them replied that they were not in charge of the orders. After 30 minutes of waiting, when the waitor finally came, we asked him what happened politely and there was so much delay, but he chose to answer in a rather rude and really ironic way without even apologizing; more specifically, he told us that he was late because he wanted to give us more time so that we order more things to eat.
This was totally unacceptable for us. For sure, the restaurant has good potential as there are lots of food options, but with so unprofessional stuff you can not...
Read moreMy partner and I chose Peppermint Restaurant for our last night out, and we couldn't have picked a better spot! From start to finish, the experience was fantastic. The service was truly outstanding. Every member of the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome and well cared for throughout our meal. It really elevated the whole evening. And the food! Oh, the food. Our fish was absolutely amazing, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. But the real showstopper? The prawns were to die for – seriously, some of the best we've ever had. Considering the high quality of the food and the excellent service, we found the price to be very reasonable. It felt like great value for such a memorable dining experience. We wholeheartedly recommend Peppermint Restaurant to anyone looking for delicious food, wonderful service, and a truly enjoyable atmosphere. We can't wait to come back on...
