If I could give this place a zero, I would. A bartender wrote in my tip for me! In front of my face! When I told him I didn't write this, he did nothing about it. It was a 6 dollar tip, on a 4 dollar tab...it's not about the money, it's about the principle. First, I know he wrote it in because he only gave me my customer copy, signed and tipped. Second, when he gave the recite back, he told me I didn't have to give him attitude when I was trying to give him my name to find my tab. Third, who says that to their customers. Plus, I was not giving the bartender attitude. I was just trying to talk over the live band behind me and was having a great time before hand. This made me so angry and sad at the same time. Fourth, you know he did it because when I confronted him, he did nothing and brushed me off. The fact that someone would have the audacity to do that and treat their customers like this is appalling. I talked to the manager or What was said to be the manager and she told me, "there's nothing she can do about it right now because they were so busy, but that she'd zero it out." Idk if that's even going to happen. But man this just makes me so mad. That employee is more than likely getting away with fraudulent activity straight in front of the customers face and nothing is being done about it. Terrible, I'm so upset. I really liked this place, but now I will never go back because I cant support that kind of business. Get your self together Hills and Dales. This happened May 19, 2018 and the guy seemed to be the only male...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a place with a 27+ crowd that’s laid back- this is your spot. They have a food truck that’s partnered with them in the back of the lot along with a grace style feel that is both indoor and outdoor. For many, Hills & Dales is the go to spot to bring pets while listening to fun music. When I’ve gone on Fridays, they’ve played mostly hip hop and r&b and then some country, and pop.
One thing to know about San Antonio spots in general is that most bars/clubs play dated music un ironically. Hills & Dales is typical in that way. My low rating comes from the service and the minimal attention to the bathroom. If you plan on being there long as a lady, prepare to wait in a poorly ventilated space. You may even get lucky and find questionable puddles of water on the floor. By the end of the night the toilets are brutally clogged and the back up toilet paper that is laid on top of the toilet paper canister is wet, soaking on the floor, or just empty. There are also portable restrooms in the back which was a better idea than the ladies restroom.
At my age, I no longer desire to make compromises to use the restroom. With that said, this wasn’t my favorite place but for my friends they found it...
Read moreNew ownership again (Feb/Mar 2017) so stop in and checkout the changes. They are cleaning it up and opening it up a bit. The place seems refreshed but still has that rustic vibe to it that we have all come to love about Hills'.
Some includes are: They now serve liquor. Down from the 50+ beer taps to 16 - they say they will rotate different varieties in from time to time. Bottle and can beer selection is trimmed down QUITE a bit from what it used to be. The wooden deck is currently GONE - they say they are building a new covered patio area where it used to be but I'm not sure if it is going to be a deck or a slab, etc. The old bar has been replaced with a new one - all the name plaques were removed and relocated to a wall where the old beer coolers used to be. Two BRAND NEW pool tables.
In the works: I was told they were going to add on to the building to add a small kitchen so they can serve some food but they will continue to allow you to order from Singh's and have it delivered inside.
Bottom line is, it is still a fun place to go and hang out with friends. Times change and Hills has to change along with the them or there will be no more, so give it a chance.
Good luck to...
