Don't fall for the overpriced packages! They don't tell you that the island closes at 4 pm and will let you buy any package even if there's only 1 hr left to close little French Key. I recommend just paying the $25 to get to the key and paying for items separately once you see what activities are actually worth doing. The "zoo" is free to anyone who goes so don't fall for paying for a tour. It's really tiny and they have signs describing the animals. Snorkeling is $10 for gear, but you can just save by bringing your own. Kayaking and paddle boarding is $25, but only worth it if you're there all day. The beach is OKAY, by really rocky and full of dead coral, wear water shoes. There's a lot of fish, but you could tell this was once a beautiful habitat before they made it a tourist spot. Also be warned that there are bugs! I left with over 20 bug bites, I believe they're flea bites from the zoo animals so wear repellent!!! Overall extremely overpriced but can be nice if you just pay for...
Read moreThis man made island is sad. The way they keep the animals is totally unacceptable. They had a hybrid lion cub you could take photos with in a tiny pen with nothing but a chair and upside down water bowl. The weather there is 90% humidity and 90 degrees. He was so hot, it was so sad. His eyes were twitching back and forth he wouldn't even respond to us offering him water. There are 4 other lions in tiny enclosures as well. One worker had an owl that he was literally dragging behind him with a rope connected to its foot. The owl was panting and his wings were fully spread out. I understand this is a third world country maybe they do not understand, but tourists should know better. If I had known there was this "zoo" I would not have supported this operation...
Read moreThought this was a bar we could sit at and enjoy the lovely scenery. It is not. It's a dock that charges outrageous prices to get to Little French Key and other experiences. We wanted to go visit, but the cost to and from the island was $46 per person. The island is close enough you could swim it. They try to sell you packages that all include animal exploitation.
Heart breaking to see a lion trapped in a small cage near the parking lot.
