We went here last summer (2024) for dinner/in the evening. The Chinatown night market is only available in the summer at night. It was all of our first time there so we were quite excited to experience trying Chinese food in Budapest, especially in a part of the city that is homed to, I believe, the largest Chinese market and Chinese restaurants.
The night market seemed quite small and I thought it would be bigger. I think there were only up to/around 10 stalls. It had outdoor seating, and as it was the Olympics then, some tv to show the games. There was also one stall that offered free shots of Chinese spirits. Overall great atmosphere for summer nights in Budapest.
I ordered food from different stalls - from Spicy Fish for their steamed vegetable bun (1480 huf), In Town Hotpot for their mini hotpot vegetable (3600 huf) and Happy Panda for their Chinese vegetarian burrito (1200 huf). Food was just ok. Not the best nor the worst. I think the food would taste better if we dined indoors at their restaurants though. The hotpot was spicy. The broth was ok. I think flat sweet potato noodles were used. Came with black fungus, lotus root and some veggies I couldn’t recall. I thought the wrap would be different based on the small picture. Inside was potatoes, bean sprouts and carrots with some chilli sauce. I thought this was just ok.
When ordering food, they gave me either a buzzer to collect the food or I had to inform them my...
Read moreI have mixed opinion about this place honestly, some food was so delicious and some were inedible, I went with the idea that I want to try everything but I couldn't, I would start with spicy soup I chose from one of the booths, it was really bad and they put along with noodles stomach meat, tongue, pig ears so I tried and couldn't eat more than couple of bites, if we speak about corn dog and small fried fish, they were my favorites and very tasty I ordered them twice, cucumber salad was good made of fresh cucumber and garlic, grilled meat was good too (we took grilled beef and squid), our friends ate chicken feet and pig ears, they said it was okay, portions are not so big so you get to select different things to eat, pork and shrimp dumplings were dry and nothing special, crepe cake and cheese cake were divine, for drinks I tried the Chinese beer which was light and refreshing, you end up paying a lot If you order a lot of things to try, service was good and they were fast, atmosphere is okay as it's open air place, if I would go back there I would go with safe options and order things I usually eat, there are available free parking places if you go...
Read moreGet there early! I would suggest going there early before it starts, go to the nearby grocery store, buy drinks, soda and water, walk though all the different eateries and look at menu, Find a table in the mid section of the eatery and then place your orders
The ordering system seems to appear very organized but the order fulfillment Is messy.
We waited over 1 hr to get our food where customers that came later got it right away, i think or order got lost in the mix since everything is handwritten
Cash and card accepted
Bathroom clean but womens toilet ran out of toilet paper
They ran out of lots of dumplings especially pan fried bao’s.
Most stalls did not serve plain white rice so it was difficult to eat salty and spicy food without rice.
Good experience but would be better if there was an app or online...
