In a nutshell: Absolutely delicious and authentic food for a great price!
Food:
We went there for lunch during the week. My boyfriend had the Lanzhou noodles (around 1160 ft) and pork-filled dumplings (around 1150 ft). I asked the staff for vegetarian options as it wasn't really clear to me which dishes included meat or fish and which didn't. The waiter was helpful and I was told that, besides other options, I could order one of the tofu dishes without meat or seafood – which I gladly did. This veggie was was around 2100 ft.
The dumplings were good (and maybe even had a little too much filling according to my boyfriend) and the noodles, which came in a rich broth, were not only authentic but simply delicious.
The vegetable and tofu dish also came covered in a savoury thick sauce that I slurped away with a fresh bowl of rice. And at this point I have to point out that – especially for a vegetarian dish – the flavours were very strong and rich. Not every veggie dish achieves this, not even remotely!
Location, interior & service:
The restaurant is located in the Monori Center area in the outskirts of Budapest. From the city center it's a short ride with the tram. The whole environment in that area of the city as well as the interior of the restaurant is very pragmatic. You won't exactly find intensively designed dining rooms here. But who cares? It still felt nice and comfy and – most importantly – authentic to spend time at Hehe restaurant. The service staff was nice and the food came very quickly. What's...
Read moreI have had a lot of good food in Budapest. Half the reason why I travel is food, and I sure am not ashamed of that. However, despite all sorts of tasty bites I had in this wonderful city, this unassuming Chinese eatery comes out top with the tastiest bite of all, a bite of freshly made and boiled to order Chinese dumpling that is! Their fillings really are on point, and that hot chili oil is hard to describe given how there are not any words for just how good it is. This is really off the beaten path, and it takes some determination to get to this place, but you will not be sad that you made the journey after enjoying the great food and hospitality of He He. In fact, I ate here twice despite merely spending 10 days in the city, and that should tell you something. (Yes, yes... Second time I came just to get two orders of dumplings, and yes again, an order is supposed to be...
Read moreI've eaten at Hehe 5 times in the last year and in my opinion the food is great. I have recommended the restaurant to many friends and colleagues who are also big fans and frequent the restaurant. Most of the time I pay by card without any problems and the friendly staff speak English and Hunagrian quite well. I was eager to try a Chinese breakfast for the first time, which you order at the counter. When I ordered in Hungarian, the lady did not understand me, so I answered in English, to which the lady rolled her eyes at me in disgust. When I asked if I could pay by credit card, she yelled at me in her language and waved her arms at me, signaling me to leave. It really is a shame when one person ruins it for many. I will try other restaurants in the area...
