We got the tip from an Islandic friend, - If you go to Blue Lagoon, go the short xtratrip to Grindavik harbor and Bryggjan, have the legendary LobsterSoup (FreeRefill!) and you can't eat lobstersoup elsewhere in the world. He was right!. The cornerinn is like from a movie. Add hard rain and some fishy looking fishermen and you will look for the camera crew. Well Inside you're hit by the warm smell of Coffie, bread and LobsterSoup.. You have passed the point of no return. The old man (eating pancakeroll?) nods at you and three steps ahead you are greeted with a big smile from the lovely hostess behind the bar. To the left a huge pot of Lobstersoup, some Veggie soup and a basket of fresh bread gets your attention. - Anything else sir? :D. The atmosphere is 100% the only problem you have is facing the cosy interior or the waterfront. The Lobstersoup delivers exactly what you expect. Perfectly balanced with salt and spices and in the bottom chunks of lobster meat! Another fisherman comes in and takes a pancake roll and sits down with his mate. (What is it with these pancakerolls!!??) I hope I never reach the point of eating pancakes before fresh lobster and newly baked bread. Afterworth I squeeze a perfect Latte in a free corner of my stomach. Bucketlist! .Check! On the way home we see the Fish n Chips place our friend mentioned as an alternative. Maybe...

You won't believe this, but while planning the trip to Iceland, I wanted to visit this small cafe. I had conjured this image of a rustic seaside cafe. But it was far from it. The decor was of a tired road side knockout in USA. Anyways let's go one by one. Objectively. The Waitress: Sat me down, brought water and then left. After few mins, I went to where she was ( busy eating food), and asked how I should order. Anyways I asked if I could try a sip of the local beer and she said sorry no can do. That is fine but most places are happy to let try. The Food: Fish, I ordered catch of the day. It was a tiny piece of fish for $36 usd. The fish was coated with non descript material probably some bread crumbs. The fish itself tasted good, but why crumb a beautiful thing? Why not serve a fillet itself. What a tragedy. Then they had feta, some shitty salad leaves that was probably imported from Spain, and tired looking fried potatoes that were sitting on the grill for a long time. Come on guys, you are in Iceland, next to the ocean in a fishing village. This food tasted of a roadside disaster. The Chef: He could be. Burger flipper. Was probably someone who worked there and they decided to call him THE CHEF. Tired and bored.

Go here if you are desperate to add something of cultural value, like I was here! Other than that, it's a losing...

A cosy and lovely place to have brunch after dipping in the blue lagoon nearby!

The café is near the harbour of Grindavik and is themed with nautical/ fishermen's tools/photos/etc. Mainly because the owners are sailors or fishermen themselves. On some days , they are in the café chilling and they are friendly to suggest to tourists what to see in Iceland.

The café serves lobster or vegetable soup with some select sandwiches-you are welcome to help yourself to bread to go with the soup too.

You can get drinks such as water, coffee(espresso, cappucino, etc.) or tea(various flavours). Soda, beers, juice, choc milk, etc. They have a small kids menu as well.

I had the lobster soup (which comes with a refill) ,tea and the Salmon sandwich . My total came to 3300 ISK. Quite pricey for me, but the soup was worth it. I must point out, the lobster soup was moderately salty- especially if you eat it without bread, you've been warned! The flavour was excellent though!

Overall, it was a great visit for me. I would recommend it to anyone in the area or after blue lagoon, in the morning....

This little cafe is right by the ocean. When we were here local fishermen were inside having some coffee. We had read several positive reviews so we were here early in the morning and the soup had just been made. The female owner is super nice and offered to charge us for one lobster and one lamb soup knowing we were trying both with our refills (the lamb is cheaper). The inner decor has lots of fishing memorabilia and a list of captains with the largest catches by year before the quota was imposed. So relaxing sitting inside watching the ocean. The lobster soup was rich and creamy although a tad light on the lobster. The lamb soup came stuffed with lamb meat and hearty vegetables. My wife and I drank tea and coffee and she raved it was the best coffee she had ever drank. That impressed me being that she lived in Brazil and is used to great coffee. The bread we ate had just been baked and melted in our mouths. Earthy and hearty bread. Overall and great experience and with the free soup refills a great value.

Ok. So, this is a town of maybe a few hundred people. Cute, but not much to see. Why on Earth would anyone come here? When I said the owner that I came from London because someone especially recommended this place, for a second, I expected him to be suprised. Well, he wasn't. Instead, he politely offered two differet types of home made soups, cakes and drinks. The lobster soup is a dream, the place is cosy and original. Not at all a touristy place, full with locals and returning travellers. Today we went back for the same food and found two crazy Australians playing their own music, creating a lovely and very lively atmosphere at full house. If you want something that tastes and feels truly Icelandic, you should not miss out on this bar. Reasonably priced too. ;-)
