Very disappointed with the lack of service. Has been travelling across Iceland for 10 days and the first time had such an arrogant approach. Before ordering my boyfriend asked a question about a dish on the menu and the waitress was clearly displeased with having to explain something. We had lobster soup and fish soup for starters and it was quite tasty. However the main dish came the second I put the last spoon of my soup in my mouth. My boyfriend didnt have cutlery for his dish and had to seek out a waitress to get him some. We both ordered the fish of the day for our main and while his fish was ok I could not eat mine because it was way too salty ( and I love my salt). Nobody asked us if our dishes were ok even when collecting my half eaten fish. There also was a party on the other side of the restaurant with a very loud life music and we could not have a proper conversation. The whole dinner felt very rushed and we felt unwelcomed. For that reason we did not order any dessert and left. Would not recommend this place especially if you plan a romantic evening with your...
Read moreFollowing on from the other reviews, this cosy little wooden chalet is a quiet, unassuming, unpretentious and brilliant restaurant. We walked a very short distance here from grindavelt campsite and froze when we saw that there were only two people eating in there… this would usually send up warning signs where we’re from - I’m sure you can relate - but it only took one quick chat with the fantastic waitress and we were comfortably sat in a warm and welcoming corner ordering fried shrimp, Camembert, fish of the day, a lava burger and drinks. Every single item on the menu was cooked perfectly, even down to crisp and fresh side salads. We went for a French chocolate cake to finish and both left full of food and warmth for the way that we had been looked after. I’m not generally one for reviews but this was worth a 5* review and more. What a lovely surprise and a treat for us....
Read moreNot often I’d be delighted at being told by a tour guide we were all stopping at somewhere he’d arranged for our lunch. I expected a busy ripoff joint but was more than pleasantly surprised to find a very affordable (for Iceland) buffet setup for us with tea/coffee/water included free and, the main offering, tempura fish, chips, salad and homemade sauces, with an all-you-can-eat format. They just kept bringing more! The place seems well off the tourist trail and a nice secret of this one tour guide. It was warm, quiet, authentically Icelandic and in a residential area. Very good value at about £15...
