I just got back from my travel in Iceland and I must tell my experience at this Glod restaurant. The food was good and the decorations there were elegant but I was treated rudely and terribly by one of the employees. Below is the detail. It was around 6:50pm of Oct 19th, me and my friend were standing at the gate to browse the menu, thinking what will we have for later tonight. A tall and thin man who wears glasses, approached us suddenly, he pushed me in the arm and grabbed the menu from my hands and then took more menus from the stand and walked directly into the restaurant. I was so shocked and it happened so quickly and I even didn't have the time to react, the man didn't say anything during the whole time. My friend was shocked too and asked me if I'm ok. And later when we were having dinner there, I made the complaint to our travel guide and also to the restaurant. The man appeared again and I confronted with him and asked for an apology. He denied that he pushed me and grabbed the menu from my hands. I insisted that what had happened earlier and he knew what he did and he said"if you say so, then you have my apology". I just got an apology which is the most phony one. I think the only reason he denied what he did is he knew he did terrible things but didn't have the guts to bear the consequences or the blame. In the end, the other employee at the counter apologized for this and my bill was on the house. I just wanna say this man is the most rude and impolite person, and also the only one I've met in Iceland. Shame on him. AND IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOOD MANNERS, PLS DO NOT WORK IN WHERE THERE ARE ANY PEOPLE THERE, COZ PEOPLE NEED TO...

We stayed at Hotel Valaskjálf, and our experience at the Glód restaurant was truly disappointing. We had never been treated differently because of our appearance or skin color… until we came here.
At 5:00 PM, we decided to visit the hotel restaurant for the advertised "Happy Hour" from 4 to 6 PM. Upon entering, the staff member Eva greeted us with hostility and disdain. Instead of welcoming us, she looked at us with contempt and curtly asked what we wanted.
When we mentioned that we were there to enjoy the restaurant and continue celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday, she told us to leave and come back at 6:00 PM. It felt odd, but we complied.
At 6:00 PM, we returned. The restaurant had only three occupied tables, so we sat down. But almost immediately, Eva approached us, claiming the table was "reserved." We tried another one, and again, she said it was "reserved."
Strangely, other guests did not seem to face the same issue. The only difference between them and us was our appearance and skin color.
It was painfully clear: we were not welcome. This was a humiliating and disappointing experience.
Such discrimination is unacceptable, especially in a tourist destination like Iceland. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who values equality and respect.
What was most frustrating was that the receptionist tried to justify Eva’s behavior, claiming that we had misunderstood the...
Read moreI called ahead after a group booking had been made to see if they could cater for my medical condition which requires no gluten and no dairy with attention to cross contamination. Not being able to cater for my condition is absolutely fine, hence I always call ahead so I can prepare. However, mocking me and snarking "what do you expect, you're in Iceland" is not okay. I'm from Iceland, I'm local to the area, so I know exactly where I am, what to expect, and which requests I can make. Navigating this condition is difficult, and eating in restaurants is stressful enough, without being belittled and ridiculed. We cancelled out booking and went to Lake Hotel, where I was met with a completely different attitude and understanding. If you have Coeliacs or a other condition requiring special consideration, avoid this place. They seem to lack ambition, and staff training - this kind of attitude shouts...
