We went to guru bar today after we got the recommendation from one of our friends. The look and feel is great. Ideal place to chill and relax with friends and loved ones. However, one star is purely for the service. I am guessing the pandemic hit them really hard because, when we went there, there was decent crowd but not waiters to help you to settle and take your orders. There is an uncle, I think he owns the place. He was taking the order, cleaning the table and serving food. We literally had to wait for 20 minutes just to settle to a place. We could see it was empty. He did not allow us to sit. He kept on saying please wait, please wait and all. Strange!

After we settled he took quite sometime to take the order. We just ordered some beers that's it. Now the food menu, we ordered pasta and a starter for which he said it will take 50 minutes! Since we were hungry, I said "just bring some french fries". As I said, it was hardly crowded and it was 5.30 pm!

After some time the uncle came back and said "Sir, pasta to nahi mil payega, or time lagega. Pizza order kar lo wahi milega". It was such a weird situation. In frustration we said yes.

The food was extremely bad. Half cooked and cold. The worst experience we had in Goa. I would really recommend the owner to employee some folks who can help him/her run the place.

Also during the payment, he added extra beers, which we did not even buy and was really rude when we confronted about the misunderstanding. This is not the right...

This legendary pub has been breaking conventions and norms since early 60's. They have been here before even Goa was a part of India ;-)It's a lovely bar on the north anjuna cliff. Have been coming here since ages now. Food - 4/5 -- SEAFOOD over chicken @guru's anyday! Breakfast Food is the Best Food @Guru's: Omelettes, Pancakes and other breakfast is super premium. Ginger lemon tea will blow your mind. Try their Prawn masala & Prawn Curry rice. For Vegetarians, do try their HONEY CHILLI POTATOES & PIZZAS are 5/5.

*Give a shot to their Bean Bhaji & Guru's 70s Cheese Toast [It's got some history ;-) ]

Alcohol - 4/5 -- DO TRY THEIR COCKTAILS. Especially Beer Cocktails & martinis. Good beer collection, can try liqueurs. Bartending hasn't been of the same quality since D'Costa Left. He used to make us regulars have his experimentations & off-the menu beer cocktails

Chakhna - Peanut Masala, Masala Papad, Toasts, Pizzas.

It usually get's crazzzyyyy on thursdays. Funk Rock, Pop, Indie - classics, blues. They have these great musicians. Elvis Lobo, then this famous blind band, Firangs Playing Sitars, Saxs, Harmonica, Nigerians/ Brazilians playing samba & what not. Now it's changed a bit. They do Saturdays too now. Trying to woo Family [indians & firangs], they get a lot of brash-mouthed north-indian lads these days. Things were different when Guru Dada was with us. He had a penchant for 'em local lads.......

It's becoming a little mainstream these...

I give this place 1 star purely for the location. Everything else is absolutely miserable.

We sat on the lower deck after we were told to seat ourselves anywhere. A server came to our table after 10 minutes and looked horribly unhappy with our choice. He then stated that there was a cover fee of ₹1000 per person to sit there, but if we order ₹1000 of food and drinks, that will be okay too. We were not really going to spend that much money, but the view was so good that we agreed.

We started placing our food order and the server stars asking us to move back to the main floor because serving us food in the lower area would be a hassle. He also explicitly stated that if we agreed to give him ₹300-₹500 in tips, he can serve us anywhere. And then he again mentioned the cover charge, which we had already agreed to, so I have no idea what his deal was.

Towards the end, the server got extremely annoyed with the amount of food we were ordering and asked us to move to the main floor very curtly. He was incredibly arrogant and rude. And none of the other staff offered to take over.

We left the place without buying anything. Would not...

Guru Bar since 1967. If you are following google map to reach there in a car please park 50 metres from the bar wherever you get some space else there is hardly any parking in front of the bar. I sat on the side of the restaurant facing the sea. I visited in the night as the music was warming up. But I think the view would be outstanding during the daytime, though it can be quite hot. We ordered a few beers and a kalamari dish. The food was average and the manager tried to cross sell a few catch of the day. But we had other plans for the evening and thus avoided it. He seemed to be upset with that and sent us the bill at our table. Being shameless we ordered another round of beer and stayed on for an additional hour. The toilet is outside beside the lounge on the opposite side of the road, In that segment the music was different but nobody was present. Maybe it would warm up during the night. Overall a great location but pretty ordinary bar to hang on if one is on budget. Watch the video which covers both the segment of the bar to decide for yourself

We visited the place last evening while we were at Anjuna Beach. We were told that it was a cool place to hang out and view the sunset. We were not disappointed. A bar / club in the shack style, it is built right on the beachside, although that part of the beach is quite rocky. The main floor at the ground level features a bar, seating on the sides overlooking the sea, and a main area with additional seating, presumably for musical gigs. The place is fairly big. The bar counter has a casual ambience about it that makes one feel relaxed. They also have a lower deck area right by the beachside where you can sit and watch the sunset or the waves breaking on the rocks in high tide. We chose to sit on the lower deck area but unfortunately, being cloudy, we did not catch the sunset. Nevertheless, it was a great experience just chilling there with our drinks and snacks and watching the waves breaking on the rocks and people parasailing on the horizon.
