TransCurry Restaurant — Restaurant in Assam

For a restaurant that’s called as fine dining, the service and food was very underwhelming. During my first visit to Guwahati I stayed at Hotel Nandan. While I wanted to order from outside after a tiring day the hotel had a strict policy from getting food from outside. So I was rather forced to eat at the restaurant. I ordered the chicken sizzler that promised a chicken steak. Well the food that I received was basically a minced chicken patty that was clearly frozen and not fresh. The patty was grainy and had absolutely no taste. Even the egg served along with it was over cooked. The only good part was the boiled food. When someone asked me how was the food I said it was not good, I was surprised to see that my comment had no reaction at all. Next morning I had the complimentary breakfast. For a hotel that was charging premium for a 100sft room the breakfast was terrible. The only non vegetarian option was egg. And it was filled with puri and dosa and idli, I mean why will I have South Indian delicacy at Assam. Oh by the way the room didn’t even have towels.

I visited Hotel Nandan’s Trans Curry restaurant with my family, and we had a wonderful experience. The quantity of each dish was generous — each main dish easily served 2-3 people.

I was particularly impressed by the Mutton Rogan Josh and the Mughlai Chicken Curry. The curry paste in both dishes was exceptional — it’s clear that the chefs have preserved and mastered traditional knowledge of Indian spices. The balance of flavors, the depth of the curry paste, and the rich aroma made the dishes stand out. In Indian cuisine, the curry paste is the soul of the dish, and the team here has executed it perfectly.

The ambience of the restaurant was cozy and welcoming, with light live music adding a special touch to the evening. The staff members were diligent, professional, and very easy to communicate with. They were attentive to our needs and provided excellent service throughout our meal.

I keep coming back here because of the consistently good food, warm atmosphere, and attentive staff. I look forward to visiting again with my family to enjoy the great food, live music, and overall wonderful dining experience.
