I recently visited Davangere Butter Dosa Hotel for the first time and had the opportunity to try a few items from their menu, including the Benne Masala Dosa, Benne Plain Dosa, and Paddu.
Benne Masala Dosa: This is definitely a must-try. The dosa is crispy, especially when ordered with a well-roasted texture. The blend of butter adds a delicious richness, and the masala inside complements it perfectly. I liked that they serve both white and yellow aloo palya. If you’re in the mood for the white aloo palya, be sure to ask for it specifically—otherwise, you'll get the yellow aloo. The chutney served with it is on the spicier side, which is just the way I like it!
Benne Plain Dosa: If you're a fan of butter, this one is for you. Unlike the masala dosa, this one allows the pure flavor of the butter to shine through without any masala overpowering it. It’s simple but flavorful, with the richness of the butter coming through in every bite.
Paddu: These are soft and fluffy, and while they were nice, I personally prefer them with a bit of a crunch on the outside. I received the fluffy version, which was still good, but I’m unsure if I should ask them to make it crunchier next time. Either way, the paddu was delightful.
The service at Davangere Butter Dosa Hotel is excellent. The staff is quick and attentive, ensuring a pleasant experience. This efficient service, combined with the well-maintained environment, creates a comfortable and satisfying...
Read moreLooks can be deceiving because this place looks way too simple but their dosas are a must try. They have nice variety – benne plain dosa, benne masala dosa, benne open dosa, set dosa and mini idlis. While their dosas are definitely good, what truly gives them that wow factor is the coconut dry chutney that they give inside the dosa. It is seriously the best chutney I have ever had, and that really is saying something because I am more of a sambar person. The masala dosa is my favourite but quick warning for those with a sensitive tongue because the red powder applied on the dosa tends to be a bit too spicy at times. The potato curry to dosa ratio is decent, they could be a little bit more generous though. However sometimes they do tend to overcook the dosas so that’s a bit of a downer. The ambience is ok-ok. Normal dhaba type of setup. Its basically for a fast rotation crowd so not much to be said. Definitely scope for improvement. Hygiene – decent. But not sure it’s a wise choice during the current pandemic. I would say to wait till things get better. The people are friendly and helpful. If you want extra chutney you can take a box along with you and they will happily fill it up for you. Though, the extra chutney is not the same as the chutney they give with the dosa. Overall 4/5 and a must...
