I recently visited Sri Mahalakshmi Refreshments for the first time and tried a variety of their offerings:
Idli & Uddina Vada with Sambar & Chutney: The sambar was a standout — perfectly balanced with savory, tangy, and well-spiced flavors, making it an excellent match for both idli and vada. The chutney complemented the combo well too.
Puri with Sagu & Chutney: The sagu here is a perfect match for puri. The chutney works fine, but sagu really elevates the dish. Only suggestion — it would be even better if puris were made fresh to order. While they are still fresh and good, they lacked that straight-from-the-oil crispness.
Maddur Vada with Chutney: The Maddur Vada was super crispy and flavorful. It can feel a bit dry on its own, so the chutney pairing is essential and works really well.
Coffee: Absolutely refreshing and a great way to end the meal.
Overall, a satisfying experience with some well-executed South Indian staples. I’d definitely...
Read moreThis hotel is in its 48th year and has established a good credibility among the locality since all these years. It's located right on the Mahalaxmi Layout main road adjacent to the Lord Hanuman Temple. It's a popular spot for the joggers and people who come for a walk in the park adjacent to the hotel. Due to its popularity, it will be flooded with people during the weekends. If you are conscious of time, you may want to visit in the weekdays. There was a long wait to get your order on a busy Sunday morning (even at 11AM). The masala dosa was good, poori was not the best so was the Vada. The coffee, i felt was better in a Darshini just near the hotel. They have few tables for seating which if you are lucky, can get a table else negotiate and stand at a tall table to stand and eat. Overall it felt like a lot of hype provided through the word of mouth else is not an extraordinary place that you...
Read moreMy friend who took me there, a local resident tols me it is famous for its aloo bonda. We couldn't however get it in the evening when we went. This famous eatery which is popular in the area is famous for its range of typical south Indian dishes. Cooked in the kitchen visible from the dining area. They have few meal items but mostly snacks.
One buys tokens at the counter and give it at the kitchen to collect the food. I tried the rava dosa which is served with chutney and sagu, a vegetable dish, slightly spicy. The dosa is made with coconut gratings and is a light meal. Also tried their masala dosa which is crisp and golden outside and soft and fluffy inside. They coat the potato filling too with chutney. Their chutney much sought after by their patrons is light green and mildly spicy. Prices are reasonable and...
