I visited Karigiri Refreshments, located at Shop No. 61/A, 10th Main Rd, 4th Block, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, for breakfast on Wednesday morning at 8:30 am. I tried the idly, vada with normal sambar, and pongal. Unfortunately, both the idly and vada were below average in quality and flavor, leading me to not recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a satisfying breakfast.
I am uncertain about the quality of their sweets, but after my experience with breakfast, I was hesitant to give them a try. The overall experience was disappointing, and I feel it can easily be overlooked in favor of better options in the area. One major drawback was the difficulty in finding adequate two-wheeler parking, making it less convenient for those who arrive by bike or scooter. I would not advise coming in a car due to parking challenges.
The service was another issue; the cashier, who appeared to be an elderly lady, was somewhat accommodating, but the gentleman at the food counter displayed a noticeable attitude and did not respond to inquiries appropriately. Additionally, there was no proper menu board displaying the prices or detailed information about the dishes served, leaving customers in the dark regarding their options.
A friend of mine shared that this was his third visit in an attempt to try their soppu sambar with idly. Twice before, he was informed that it was unavailable, and on this visit, they told him they only prepare soppu saaru for idlies on Sundays and Thursdays. At the very least, they should provide a simple notice or an A4 printout about this, yet they failed to do so, which reflects poorly on their customer service.
The idly, priced at 15 rupees, had a rubbery texture and was accompanied by a watery chutney and tasteless sambar. The uddin vada cost 20 rupees and was served cold and hard, even at the peak breakfast hour of 8:30 am. The pongal, which was priced at 45 rupees for a small bowl, was poorly prepared, with an excess of water, lacking masala, salt, and overall flavor. The mixture of rice, lentils, and pulses seemed poorly combined and cooked, making for an unsatisfactory dish.
Given these factors, I opted not to try their sweets or coffee and tea, as my experience thus far left me apprehensive. I do not recommend visiting this place, especially for those traveling from distant locations. There are certainly better dining options available that would provide a more enjoyable...
