A brisk walk in the morning got me and my wifey hungry and we decided to extend our walk to the nearest darshini. We ended up in this new place in Thubarahalli, closer to Kundanahalli Gate, called New Udupi Veg. We have observed this place being always crowded and always wanted to visit.
Darshini's are Bengaluru's answer to Quick Service Restaurant or QSR's, they serve clean, hygienic food, very quickly for a quick in and out for your hunger pangs. The menu usually is pretty standard, but sometimes it can widen to be very inclusive. Usually they are self service, with more places to stand to sit, for a quick turnaround of customers.
Surprisingly in New Udupi Veg, we found a mini tiffin offering which is a bit unusual for a darshini so we quickly ordered that up and a Poori Saagu, and our special request to give us the aloo masala stuffing of the masala dosa, was happily obliged, alongside the saagu and chutney. Three poori served super hot and crisp, and the potato masala was perfect, while wifey loved the chutney and saagu.
All this, while my mini tiffin arrived, which was a superb spread with chow chow bath (a shared portion of sweet kesari bath and savoury khara bath), one piece of a regular sized fluffy Idli, a slightly smaller masala dosa, a regular sized vada, and a rice bath of the day, with chutney and sambar, and includes a regular portion of a strong filter coffee. It was a feast to the eyes and to the tummy, we both quickly devoured this spread and quite enjoyed the crispy dosa and the vada, the idly was the usual. The Khara bath was my favourite and wifey enjoyed the kesari bath. The rice bath was decent, and I really enjoyed the coffee, not the best, but did the job. Definitely recommend this place for a quick bite or an...
Read moreThis specific Upudi (Sri Udupi Veg, Thubarahalli) is of the goto of all the Upudi out there. Most of south Indian chain resturant with like of these like SLV,Udupi is almost same taste throughout. But taste at this Upudi i found really different and mouth watering. For south Indian foods like Idli, Vada etc you wont feel any taste difference from resturant like i mentioned but the north Indian foods here are really different and good taste which makes it stand out from rest. I tried Paneer Tikka and Paneer Pasanda here. Both were cooked delicious and went many a times to try it. Waiting time here is bit more than other south Indian chain resturant what i felt but yeah food was...
Read moreI placed an order today expecting authentic Udupi-style food, but the experience was very disappointing.
The naan was extremely sticky and seemed like it was made earlier and just reheated before delivery.
All paneer varieties (Paneer Butter Masala, Paneer Chilli, Paneer Crispy) were filled with maida and cornflour, with hardly any real paneer taste. It felt more like eating flour-based batter than actual paneer dishes.
This is not the quality we expect when ordering from a known restaurant. Please take this feedback seriously and improve the food quality and freshness...
