My friend, his family and I arrived a little after half-past 10 for breakfast. The wait seemed quite a long one (we were seated after 30 mins.) because there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. Sometime during the half hour, I got a chance to check out the interiors of the cafe - a lot of picture frames with works of art hung all around the cafe (you could choose to purchase from among these if it fancies you). They also have a dedicated area where you would find pamphlets of various cultural activities happening all over the city - this helps in cultural exchange / awareness. Once seated we ordered the shrooms and onion sandwich, hash browns, spicy scrambled eggs (made with egg whites) and a filter coffee. After having worked through these we decided to add a 'stuff-on-toast' (you can choose 4 toppings from a list of vegetarian options - list of veggies, cheese) with cheese, capsicum, mushroom, onion and some spice to make it hot to the check. The food is good, the staff is courteous & happy to serve and the music is also at decent volume so that everyone in our group could talk to each other. The only negative that I can write about here are the handwash area and the restroom - the area is unclean, the faucets are broken (leak when turned on) and lack of decent tissue papers - the restroom had a toilet roll by the washbasin and the tissues kept outside were single ply and stuck to the wet hands (I had to wash my hands again to remove the pieces of tissue paper). These are minor things but if someone were to walk into the cafe, I'd rather wash my hands and sit down to eat than on the contrary.
P.S. We were not served water during the hour 20 mins we were seated. Just saying, that providing water is the first sign of a fantastic host. Hope they work on this.
Visit 2: 7th June: having had an amazing experience not long ago, we returned for another time today. There was no crowd but we had to wait for someone to seat us. The food was not as good this time - the toasts were smaller and hard to eat (they didn't provide us the brown bread as mentioned in the menu), the server took offense when we told him that we wanted the sandwich to be sliced in half (we'd mentioned this earlier to the person who'd taken our order). We did get our waters but the tumblers were not clean. Apart from these, the faucets were still leaky and the force of water kept changing.
P.S. I think the cafe functions well under pressure - the food is better, the servers are also busy and they remember to take away the empty plates when they bring our next dish. I could give it a miss, the next time...
Read moreThe Hole in the Wall Cafe at Indiranagar is a small yet cozy cafe with good service. The cafe has a good ambience where they play really good music.
Although they have a huge menu to choose from, yet they do serve comparatively faster. We ordered:
✔️Coffee: Okayish. Basically average!
✔️White Hot chocolate topped with Mocha Cream: The drink was vanilla flavoured and tasted very normal. I personally didn't like it much as it was giving a medicinal taste to me!
✔️The Chicken Hole 9 Yards Hash: It was the best dish I had ordered among all. It was a mixture of Chicken Salami, Chicken Sausages, Hashbrowns, Jalapenos, Bellpeppers, & Onions topped with a pair of sunny side up. It was served with a pair of toasted breads and butter. It's smokey flavour made my tastebuds crave for more.
✔️The Meaty Chicken Pie: It was yet another tasty dish I had ordered that had a mixture of chicken and baked beans topped with mashed potato and baked with cheese. It was also served with a pair of toasted breads and butter.
✔️The Meaty Pizza Omelette: It was a pizza made with a bed of omelette topped with pizza sauce, Chicken Pepperoni, Bellpepper(yellow, red & green), olives, onions and cheese. It was good but not as much as one would expect.
✔️Cheesy Breakfast: It was ideally a veg option in the menu but I had customized it with chicken sausage. Served with a pair of toasted bread & butter, it was a creamy mixture of mushroom, corn, spinach, chicken sausage, olives, bellpeppers and onions topped with baked mozzarella & cheddar cheese. The dish was very bland & I believe the combination of both the cheese gave a horrible smell and taste to the dish! Sadly I had to return it.
✔️Lime & Ginger Juice/Lemon Mint Cooler/Cucumber Mojito: The lime & ginger juice and the cucumber mojito almost had the same taste where the ginger was too overpowering. The lemon mint cooler was comparatively better.
Overall I would rate: ✓FOOD - 4 out of 5. I really want to taste more of their dishes. ✓BEVERAGES - 2.5 out of 5 for the ones that I have tried.
BILLING - The bill came around ₹1.8K for 3 people which was around ₹600/person which is quite a decent price compared to the good portions...

I’ve never written a review like this, but after today’s appalling experience at Hole in the Wall Café (Indiranagar), I feel compelled to warn others. We reached the café, saw no queue, no staff at the entrance, and several vacant tables – so we simply went ahead and sat down. Moments later, a rude waiter approached us and barked, "Have you given your name at the entrance?" I replied honestly, "No, I didn’t see anyone there." His response? An aggressive and sarcastic "Then how did you come and sit here?" What kind of tone is that? Is this how you welcome guests?
I told him we’d step outside and wait but requested a glass of water as we had come from far. Instead of a basic courtesy, he rudely insisted we leave immediately. Moments later, he summoned a so-called “manager” (definitely didn’t behave like one), who started shouting at us with absolutely no professionalism or respect. He said "How dare you come sit inside without registering your name?" – are you serious?
I told him this attitude was shocking, and his reply? "Keep sitting here, I’ll make sure no one serves you. Not even a drop of water." That level of arrogance and entitlement from someone who claimed to be the owner is disgusting. We asked for his name and the owner's name, and he arrogantly replied, "I am the owner." We took his picture and left, deeply disturbed.
I've been visiting HIW since its humble beginnings in Koramangala, and I used to love this café. But after today, I solemnly vow never to return – and I’ll make sure others know exactly how you treat people. This isn’t just poor service, it’s outright hostility toward customers. The owners should be ashamed of how their staff (or they themselves) behave. Also, lately their food quality has gone massively down.
If you value basic human decency, stay far away from this place. There are a hundred better cafés in Bangalore that know how to treat customers with respect.
