I recently visited Babylon Lounge in Kolkata to celebrate my fiancé's birthday. We had made a booking over the phone, and upon arrival, we were immediately impressed by the beautiful and decorative ambiance and interior. The concept of a hanging garden added to the overall charm, especially in the evening. The restaurant was quite spacious, although groups of less than 25 people would have to settle for less comfortable high chairs, while sofas were available for larger groups.
However, I must mention that the air conditioning in the restaurant was poor, resulting in an uncomfortable feeling of sweating during our visit. Additionally, the music was often too loud, causing some disturbance throughout the evening. On the positive side, the warm-tone lighting throughout the restaurant created a beautiful ambiance, perfect for taking pictures. The establishment also featured various spots adorned with large artificial trees, which made for great photo opportunities.
Now, let's talk about the food. We ordered a variety of dishes, including Fish and Chips, Afghani Sula Tangri Kabab, Popcorn Caramel Shake, Kashmiri Gulabi Goast, and Afgani Mitti Wala Gosht Biryani. Among these items, the Fish and Chips, Afghani Sula Tangri Kabab, and Caramel Shake stood out as the highlights of the meal. They were delicious and served hot.
However, when it came to the main course, we had a disappointing experience. The biryani was the worst I've ever had. The taste was absolutely pathetic, and after consuming only two tablespoons, we couldn't eat any more. The so-called signature dish, Kashmiri Gulabi Goast, was also a letdown. Despite the generous portion of mutton, the spices didn't blend well with the meat, resulting in an unpleasant taste. Furthermore, the addition of dry rose petals in the biryani was a poor choice, making it inedible. Even though the mutton pieces were sizable, they were so bad in taste that we couldn't take another bite. Frankly, a small street stall would have done a better job with mutton dishes and biryani than the chefs at Babylon Lounge.
After the disappointing main course, we didn't dare to try any of their dessert offerings. Our experience with the food left a bitter taste, and we can't recommend it to others. Despite the attractive looks and ambiance of the restaurant, the food failed to deliver. Babylon Lounge was a disappointment and certainly spoiled our special day.
On a positive note, the staff members were attentive and well-behaved throughout the service, which was a redeeming aspect of our visit. There is free parking available on the road opposite the restaurant, but reaching the venue by public transport can be challenging. It's advisable to avoid public transport and opt for taxis or cabs instead.
In conclusion, Babylon Lounge is an over-hyped and overpriced establishment. If you still wish to visit, I recommend sticking to their starters and shakes only. However, given my experience, I would caution against setting high expectations based on the restaurant's appearance. Ultimately, Babylon Lounge fell short of our expectations and left us...
Read moreA Symphony of Flavors, a Waltz of Waiting: My Experience at Babylon Kolkata Babylon Kolkata certainly lives up to its name when it comes to the culinary offerings. From the moment the first dish arrived, a vibrant tapestry of aromas and tastes unfolded, leaving a lasting impression on my palate. The Chicken Kebab was particularly noteworthy. The chicken was succulent and perfectly charred, infused with a marinade that struck a delightful balance of spices. Each bite was an explosion of flavor, a testament to the chef's skill and the quality of the ingredients. Similarly, the Mutton Rara Gosht was rich and creamy, possessing a depth of flavor that spoke of slow cooking and careful preparation. The accompanying Afgani flavoured garlic Naan was warm and fluffy, the perfect vehicle to soak up the delicious gravy. It's clear that the kitchen at Babylon prioritizes taste and delivers dishes that are genuinely satisfying and memorable.
However, the experience was unfortunately marred by a pace of service that can only be described as glacial. From the initial order taking to the arrival of each subsequent dish, a significant amount of time elapsed. We found ourselves frequently looking around for our server, and requests for water refills or additional condiments often went unanswered for extended periods. While the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant enough, the prolonged waiting times did detract from the overall enjoyment. What could have been a seamless and delightful dining experience was punctuated by stretches of inactivity, leaving us feeling somewhat neglected. It's a shame because the food at Babylon Kolkata truly shines. The kitchen is clearly producing high-quality, delicious dishes that deserve to be savored without the frustration of excessive delays. In conclusion: Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Delicious and flavorful) Service: ⭐⭐ (Significantly slow and inattentive at times) Ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Fabulous) Value: ⭐⭐⭐ (Considering the food quality, but the service impacts the overall value proposition) Babylon Kolkata has the potential to be a truly exceptional dining destination. If they can address the issues with their service speed and attentiveness, they would undoubtedly elevate the entire customer experience to match the high standards of their cuisine. For now, be prepared for a culinary journey worth embarking on, but one that requires a generous dose...
