Disappointing Experience at Sharma Tea Shop, Salt Lake
I recently visited the famous Sharma Tea Shop in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on a Sunday morning, expecting a delightful breakfast experience. However, my visit turned out to be quite disappointing.
The shop was extremely crowded, which is understandable given its popularity, but it took me 10-15 minutes just to place my order. I ordered 2 pieces of onion kachori, 4 pieces of club kachori, and a tea. The total cost was ₹150, which felt overpriced as the same items are generally available for ₹60-70 at most places in Kolkata.
Once I got my order, the real disappointment began. The food did not live up to the hype at all. The sabzi served with the club kachoris was utterly tasteless, lacking even basic seasoning like salt. It was bland and uninspiring. The kachoris themselves were below average in both flavor and texture. Even the tea, which is supposed to be their specialty, was mediocre at best.
Overall, the food was far from worth the price, and the experience left me unsatisfied. To make matters worse, this unpleasant meal ruined my morning, and I had to visit another place afterward to actually enjoy some decent food.
I had high hopes for Sharma Tea Shop based on its reputation, but the quality and taste of the food left much to be desired. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially considering the many better and more reasonably priced options...

Sharma Tea in Kolkata is a street food gem that delivers an unforgettable experience with its vibrant flavors and iconic offerings. The samosas (singara) are crispy, perfectly spiced, and packed with delicious filling, while the club kachori with its spicy aloo sabzi is an absolute delight—crisp, flavorful, and served with tangy chutneys that elevate every bite. The dhokla is light, fluffy, and bursting with Gujarati zest, and the tikiya chola is a savory masterpiece, balancing spices and textures beautifully. The dahi bara is creamy and refreshing, a perfect complement to the hot snacks. The tea, especially the kesar chai served in traditional clay kullars, is rich, aromatic, and downright addictive—a true taste of Kolkata’s tea culture.
The only slight downside is that hygiene could be improved, as the roadside setting can feel a bit untidy at times. However, the food quality and taste are so outstanding that it’s easy to overlook this. The service is quick, the staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable for such generous portions. Sharma Tea is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Kolkata street food with a side of nostalgia. Whether you’re grabbing a quick breakfast or an evening snack, this place delivers a five-star experience in every...

Tea was really good but initial plate of kochuri was cold and hard. Hardly any gravy provided in dum aloo and quantity of dum aloo and kalo jeere aloo sabji is way too less for 4pc kochuri(Taste was normal in the way you'll just know you're having puri with aloo) . Normal puri is size of a kids palm served Rs50 plate (roughly 4-6pcs with only kalo jeera aloo sabji). Overstaffed but still extremely mismanaged and the staff attitude is too rude and speaks on a high tone justifying themselves even if mistake fully pointed out with proof along with the fact they can take wrong orders (which happened with one of the customers while we were present). Self-service if opted is rather way quicker. Went after observing high-end reviews but not intending to go back after the petty behavior and high end costing especially because the service and behavior doesn't match their...
