I recently had the chance to visit Al Jawahar Restaurant near Jama Masjid, and honestly, it lived up to its reputation. From the moment I walked into the area, the aroma of spices and grilled meat instantly got me excited. The place has a real Old Delhi charm โ bustling streets, centuries of food culture in the air, and a strong Mughlai vibe that you just donโt get anywhere else.
๐ What I Ate
I went straight for the Mutton Nihari, and it was incredible โ rich, deeply spiced, and slow-cooked just right. The meat was tender, falling off the bone, and the gravy had that deep flavor that only comes from long hours of cooking. I paired it with Khamiri Roti, which was soft, slightly smoky, and perfect for scooping up the nihari.
I also tried their Chicken Jahangiri, which had a nice balance of creaminess and heat, and a slightly tangy finish that cut through the richness. Every bite reminded me why this place has been popular for decades.
๐ฌ Service & Ambience
The place was quite busy (as expected), but the staff handled it well. Service was quick once I got seated. The restaurant itself is pretty simple in terms of decor โ nothing fancy โ but it feels authentic, which adds to the charm.
It can get a bit chaotic during peak hours, so Iโd recommend going a little early if you want a smoother experience. Also, itโs not the most spotless restaurant โ itโs clean enough, but donโt expect luxury. You come here for the food.
โ Final Verdict
Overall, I had a great experience. The food was the clear highlight โ packed with flavor, generous portions, and very reasonably priced. If you're a fan of Mughlai cuisine or just want to experience real Old Delhi food, Al Jawahar should definitely be...
ย ย ย Read moreWhere do I start! ๐ I absolutely LOVED the food, the taste is one of a kind, the quantity and quality both are immaculate. Price might seem high at first but their hospitality and the richness of flavors will make it seem justifiable. I am totally thrilled and satisfied by this restaurant, went their to celebrate my brother's Walima Party and toally recommend this place. It was so much fun! The interior is jaw-dropping too. Very very friendly staff, very cooperative, very patient and extremely polite. One Mr Perwez guided us throughout our item selection process, the quantity in which the orders must be placed and gave us incredible advice. None of this would've been possible without his help. We had ordered chicken barra which is a MUST TRY, I think it was the most delicious dish and I seriously couldn't get enough of it. Also ordered chicken jahangari, chicken biryani, shahi paneer, mutton qeema, khameeri roti (100% MUST TRY!) and Kheer. Unlike other restaurants, salad and raita is complimentary which is the best part. This restaurant is a complete value for money. I'm looking forward to being a regular at this place. God bless the staff and the kind...

Mr. Perwez, in particular, was very helpful โ he guided us through our menu choices, suggested the right portion sizes, and offered great recommendations.
We ordered the Al Jawahar Special Chicken Curry, Chicken Dahiwala, and Firni โ all of which were absolutely delicious! The Firni was my favorite โ a 100% must-try dish โ along with the Kheer. Another highlight is that they serve complimentary salad and raita, which sets them apart from other restaurants.
